Bridgerton Season 4 is finally complete, but the Luke Thompson memes live forever. Netflix has gotten in on the fan fun with their leading man.

Thompson and Yerin Ha have been on promotional blitz promoting the latest season of Bridgerton. However, the entire fandom realized their beloved Benedict Bridgeton did not know what the acronym ‘ISTG’ meant. (That’s “I Swear To God” btw.) One comment said that Ha’s character was beautiful and wrote “istg” after it. When Thompson read it, he said “is-ta-ga” instead of the acronym. When later asked if he finally knew what it meant, he revealed that he “thought” he knew what it was.

A visibly confused Thompson thought it was short for Instagram. And, just like his love interest from this season, the entire Internet is in on the joke with him. It’s been good humor all the way around. With so much going on, it feels great to just have a laugh.

Thompson has been very open in other interactions about how offline he really is. Moments like the ISTG kerfuffle illustrated that point so well. A lot of commenters can’t help but feel that this is a healthier way for all of us to be. Maybe we should get on board too? At any rate, Netflix’s bio on Instagram reads, “welcome to our ISTG page.” Delightful. There’s just something about Bridgerton that brings out this kind of charming nonsense. The press tour for each season has yielded some absolutely hysterical reaction clips. Season 4 has not strayed from that path either.

Just like our wandering lead man for this season, people have taken notice of Thompson’s almost constant confusion in these press interviews. The results are nothing short of perfection. Check out some examples down below!

Bridgerton’s Luke Thompson discovers what ISTG means

Bridgerton's ISTG meme endures.

An interview with Refinery 29 saw them poke a little fun at that viral moment. As they closed out their conversation, Rachel Choy wondered if our head Boy understood what ISTG meant. Thompson responded, “ISTG, yeah, thank you so much.” Ha quickly asked her on-screen partner what it meant. And, things got hysterical when he replied Instagram. The Sophie Bridgerton actress said, “No!” and Thompson seemed confused before Ha clarified, “I swear to god!”

We all felt for the actor when he said, “Oh! I swear to God. I’m so confused. OK, i’m still confused. I don’t know what it means.” Ha comforted both Choy and her co-star when she said she would brief him on the nuances later. Thompson tried to defend himself one more time. He argued, “I thought it meant Instagram! But that makes no sense. I swear to god.” Bless you for giving us this gift Ms. Choy.

Thompson’s experience with Bridgerton social media

The Bridgerton star has been none too shy about discussing his lack of social media presence. For him, Benedict and all the Bridgertons live in the imagination of the audience at large. People might have wild opinions about what his character chooses to do. But, for him that doesn’t change how he feels about his role or anyone else’s role on the show. The Television Academy talked to him about all this fervor surrounding Season 4 and his time as head man. Thompson offered the kind of nuanced response that people have come to expect from him.

“I get a sense of things, because social media is everywhere. I think it’s nice that people see very different things reflected in the character, because it’s just as interesting as [my] conception of [Benedict],” he told them. “I don’t think I’m the guardian of [his] character. I think a character can live in people’s imaginations in all sorts of ways.
