Woman goes into labor during wedding, now the bride wants her to apologize for overshadowing the big day
Something borrowed, something blue, and a baby due.

A woman went into labor during her brother’s wedding, but instead of celebrating the arrival of a healthy baby boy, the bride reportedly demanded an apology for overshadowing her nuptials.
In a Reddit post on r/AmItheAsshole, the groom’s mother explained that her daughter, whom she called Jessie, was due to give birth in early August. However, her water broke during her brother’s wedding in early July, prompting a trip to the hospital. While the family welcomed a new member that day, the bride, referred to as Rebecca, reportedly wasn’t thrilled about sharing the spotlight.
The energy soured further when Rebecca allegedly threatened to skip her father-in-law’s upcoming birthday celebration if Jessie attended. The mother-in-law refused to exclude her daughter, giving yet another family event a cliffhanger. Apparently, the baby’s early arrival wasn’t the only thing throwing everyone’s plans off schedule.
The baby didn’t check the wedding calendar
As shared by the Redditor, Jessie and Rebecca already had a strained relationship before the wedding. Rebecca reportedly considered Jessie “stuck up,” while Jessie found her sister-in-law “annoying.” The mother also suspected that differences in their financial circumstances contributed to the tension.
Despite their differences, the two women generally remained civil around each other. Those pleasantries cracked when Jessie’s water broke during the wedding, roughly a month before her expected due date.
The Redditor accompanied her daughter to the hospital, while her husband remained at the wedding. Other relatives reportedly spent much of the celebration waiting for updates about Jessie and the baby, particularly because he would be the family’s first grandchild. Despite the unexpected labor during an event, Jessie delivered a healthy baby boy that night.
Of course, due dates aren’t guaranteed delivery dates, as some babies do tend to outrank the calendar. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only about one in 20 women give birth on their estimated due date. That’s roughly 5%, meaning the date on the calendar is hardly a reservation the baby has agreed to honor.
The family drama went from a wedding to a birthday
The mother-in-law said the disagreement continued long after the wedding. Rebecca reportedly wanted Jessie to apologize for overshadowing the ceremony, while Jessie refused because going into labor wasn’t something she had planned.
The latest confrontation began when the Redditor called Rebecca to check whether a restaurant could accommodate her allergies ahead of her husband’s birthday dinner. Instead of discussing the menu, Rebecca reportedly asked whether Jessie would attend.
When informed that Jessie was invited, Rebecca allegedly declared that neither she nor her husband, who is the Redditor’s son, would come if Jessie was there. The mother-in-law refused to uninvite her daughter from her own father’s birthday celebration. She also told Rebecca that expecting an apology over an unplanned birth was ridiculous.
The disagreement had now extended from one celebration to another. A straightforward family birthday dinner turned into tension yet again.
According to the post, Rebecca responded by calling her mother-in-law a b**** and accusing her of favoring Jessie. The Redditor acknowledged that she was unsure whether she should apologize for the confrontation, but was certainly not crossing her own daughter’s name off the guest list. As it seems, the family planned a birthday celebration, but drama from the wedding might still be available on the menu.
