‘Barbarian’ director Zach Cregger is back with a new trailer for ‘Weapons’

One of the more terrifying original horror movies in recent years was Zach Cregger’s Barbarian. It really made you second guess whether or not you want to stay at an Airbnb. And whether or not we can trust Justin Long. Now, we have Cregger’s next film: Weapons.
Originally, the film was set to star Julia Garner and Pedro Pascal (which is funny since Garner is the Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four: First Steps with Pascal). But a recast puts Josh Brolin starring opposite the Ozark star. The premise is simple: An entire class of young students disappear and the town turns on the teacher whose class it was.
I saw an extended look at the film at CinemaCon where Cregger said “It’s a twisty, turny movie. If you saw Barbarian, it’s pandering, it worked a little bit,” he added. And if you remember how terrifying Barbarian was…that should give us some kind of idea of what Weapons has in store for us.
The film is described as follows: “When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.”
A teaser trailer was dropped today that has voice over, saying “Mr. Graff, I can understand your passion. And I don’t mind having these conversations with you because, God forbid, if it was my child, I’d be demanding answers too.” It then goes on, saying “Those kids walked out of those homes. No one pulled them out. No one forced them. What do you see that I don’t?”
Yet another terrifying film, I guess!
Cregger’s Barbarian has really stayed with me since I saw it back in 2022. His use of both Long and Bill Skarsgård was fascinating to me and I’ll never not check an entire Airbnb now. But with Weapons, it seems a bit more of a mystery thriller than an outright horror movie (from this teaser and what was shown at CinemaCon). But also it’s Cregger. Who knows what he has in store.
I am both terrified and intrigued to see what Weapons is going to be. Joining Garner and Brolin in the cast is Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, with Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan. We have a little ways to wait until Weapons is released but hey, that gives us plenty of time to rewatch Barbarian and be terrified about it, right?
