Marvel's Moon Knight

Who is Anton Mogart, The Midnight Man, in Marvel’s Moon Knight?

The premiere of Marvel’s Moon Knight is almost a month away! And while a lot of the focus so far has been (naturally) on Oscar Isaac, which of Spector’s identities will be making themselves known, and obviously Ethan Hawke’s mysterious villain character Arthur Harrow, Harrow isn’t the only villain that Moon Knight will have to confront! One of the secondary villains coming after our boy is Anton Mogart, also known as The Midnight Man.

Who is Anton Mogart?

Anton Mogart is one of the few Marvel characters of which little is known. In the comics, Mogart first appeared as a master thief, stealing priceless works of art, jewels, and artifacts from all around the world. He became known as the Midnight Man because his thefts would take place exactly at midnight. He also stole for the simple pleasure of the act and not for financial gain.

He is one of Moon Knight’s adversaries after Moon Knight prevented him from stealing a rare Monet oil painting. During the fight, Midnight Man fell into a river and was presumed drowned. However, he was actually carried downriver and into a sewage drainage duct. The wastes in the sewer severely damaged his face, leaving him deformed. When he recovered he learned that the police had recovered all of his stolen prizes. He blamed Moon Knight for his ravaged face and loss of trophies and vowed revenge.

Driven insane by his revenge, he lived in the sewers and began accumulating trash instead of treasure. He also worked with Bushman at one point to try and take down Moon Knight by luring him into the sewers, but those plans were also ultimately foiled. It was also revealed that he had a son that he eventually trained and taught all of his trade secrets to. His son, taking the alias Midnight, would attempt becoming Moon Knight’s sidekick, but ended up as a villain as well.

Who is playing him?

Anton Mogart will be played by the popular French actor Gaspar Ulliel. However, the 37-year-old actor, known for his performance in It’s Only the End of the World, passed away this year after a tragic skiing accident. Moon Knight will feature one of his last performances.
