Amazon delivery driver caught relieving himself on tenant’s belongings inside NYC apartment lobby; company offers the tenant a gift card
A shocking video that appears to show an Amazon delivery driver urinating in the lobby of a posh NYC apartment has left residents outraged and worried about future deliveries from the company in case they get the same delivery man. When customers complained about the Amazon worker’s behavior, the company merely offered them a $50 gift card.
The footage was captured by Donny, 30, a resident who wished to remain anonymous, only being identified by his last name. Donny buzzed the Amazon delivery driver into the four-storey apartment building in Greenwich Village, on the corner of Bleecker Street and Carmine Street, on August 26, around 3 pm. As far as he was concerned, it was a perfectly ordinary delivery, according to The New York Post.
However, when he checked his Ring door cam footage, he saw the Amazon worker’s shocking actions. The footage showed the delivery driver stepping into the lobby area of the apartment around 3 p.m., cautiously checking to make sure that the coast was clear, unzipping his pants, and proceeding to urinate on the wall just outside of Donny’s apartment.
“He walked straight back there as if he’d done it a hundred times, like second nature,” Donny told The Post, adding, “I had shoes in the hallway, a chair in the hallway, a table in the hallway, and he was peeing and splashing everywhere.” The urine seems to splash onto Donny’s belongings too.
Donny complained to Amazon
Following the incident, Donny made a complaint to Amazon regarding the delivery driver’s actions. However, he claims all the company offered him was a $50 gift card by way of apology.
Donny claimed he refused the gift card, telling The Post, “I didn’t think that was appropriate for what had happened.” He also claimed that several of his belongings had been soaked in the urine, including his shoes, a chair, and a table, all of which he later threw out.
The tenant also claimed that he has been left fearing the Amazon delivery driver striking again, admitting he’s worried about what will happen anytime he buzzes a delivery driver into the building. “Now, every time an Amazon driver rings my doorbell, I have to go check the camera to make sure that he’s not peeing in my hallway,” he said. He also expressed concern that someone close to him, such as his girlfriend or five-year-old nephew, might see the driver in the act.
Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time an Amazon driver has been caught on camera urinating inside an apartment building.
According to The Post, attorney Cary London claimed they were looking into possible litigation against Amazon, stating, “What we would really like to see is a change in Amazon’s policies — in addition to monetary compensation.” Meanwhile, Amazon has distanced itself from the delivery driver, saying he is not directly employed by the company but rather had been employed by independent “Delivery Service Partners.”
However, in a statement, Amazon spokesperson Leigh Anne Gullett said, “The individual is no longer delivering Amazon packages.”
