The role of “Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past” has already been filled by Evan Peters, and now we have our first candidate for his Avengers sequel counterpart: Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Let the battle of the Quicksilvers begin.

The Wrap reports that Taylor-Johnson is the frontrunner for the role, “though no decision has been made at this time.” Since his breakout performance in Kick-Ass the actor’s been in high demand, appearing in Savages, Anna Karenina, and Albert Nobbs in addition to the upcoming Kick-Ass 2 and Godzilla, the latter of which is currently filming. And that’s in just three years. So while he definitely fits the buzzed-about-actor-grabbing-a-high-profile-superhero-gig mold, like The Wrap says, a potential scheduling conflict could prevent him from taking the role.

The Avengers 2 doesn’t even come out for another two years, so it may be some time yet before we get any official word on Quicksilver’s casting. Heck, Marvel’s still negotiating with Robert Downey Jr. to get him back, not to mention the rest of the team from the first movie.

But, jumping into the realm of the extremely hypothetical for a moment, if Marvel is indeed considering Saoirse Ronan for Quicksilver’s sister Scarlet Witch (a role that Ronan said an in exclusive interview she’d be interested in), and if Taylor-Johnson gets cast… well, I can see the family resemblance.
