A real cop pulled over a Texas couple dressed as police and asked what precinct they were from, then spotted their kids dressed as robbers
The officer burst out laughing and let them off with a warning

A Texas family got an unexpected Halloween surprise after dressing up as cops and robbers for a children’s costume event. Carissa and Jim Navarrette had dressed as police officers, while their children wore robber costumes. But on their way home, the family found themselves being pulled over by an actual police officer.
In an interview with FOX 26 Houston, the Navarrette family explained that they had just attended a trunk-or-treat event at their youngest child’s daycare in Katy, Texas. On the drive home, they started debating where to get something to eat. Jim pulled over at an intersection to make a U-turn, but Carissa changed her mind at the last minute. He abandoned the turn and kept driving, a maneuver that may have caught the attention of a nearby officer.
The officer pulled them over, and Jim began worrying that their costumes might make the situation look even more suspicious. According to the family’s account, the officer approached their vehicle and asked what precinct they were from, apparently mistaking the parents’ costumes for real police uniforms.
The officer was not expecting two little robbers in the backseat
The situation became much funnier once the officer saw the children dressed as criminals in the backseat. The family explained that they were coming from a Halloween event, and the officer reportedly started laughing when he realized what was happening. Traffic stops that end with a kind officer tend to resonate online, like the one where an officer pulled over a driver with Tourette syndrome and handled it gracefully.
The officer even joked about having candy before telling Jim he would check his identification. The family ultimately received a warning instead of a ticket. Carissa described the officer as “really, really cool” about the entire encounter.
Carissa also explained why she had not recorded the initial interaction. The family was nervous, and they wanted to respect the officer’s privacy. She only started filming after he returned to his vehicle to check Jim’s identification, and the video eventually spread across social media.
The family is already planning to wear the costumes again
The traffic stop became a memorable family story, and their teenage daughters were quick to notice how much attention the video was getting. During the FOX 26 interview, one daughter joked that her mother was getting more views than they were on their own TikTok accounts. Halloween season has produced plenty of viral family moments, including one involving an Alabama dad at Spirit Halloween.
The family also said they planned to keep their cops-and-robbers theme for Halloween night, with another party and neighborhood trick-or-treating on the schedule. Their son, meanwhile, said he would rather dress as a robber again because it would be funnier to sit in the back.
Carissa ended the interview with a simple message for the community: “Respect in, respect out.” She also reminded people to be careful during Halloween, when more families are out celebrating and walking around at night.
