Florida Home Bakery Calls Out Amazon Driver for ‘Stealing’ a Cake Pop Treat He Thought Was Free: ‘Come Back and Pay My Wife’
The home bakery is under scrutiny.
These days, homeowners who often receive packages show their appreciation by leaving out snacks and drinks for delivery drivers to take for free. So when an Amazon driver saw cake pops laid out on the porch of a Florida home he was delivering to, he didn’t second-guess snagging a piece. However, he later found himself accused of stealing when the homeowner put him on blast on social media.
According to @lynewsdaily on TikTok, the incident allegedly happened at Homemade Haven Porch Bakery in Milton, Florida, when Amazon delivery driver Wes Stott arrived to deliver a package and supposedly saw a pink cooler out on the porch with a sign that said, “Treat yourself to Homemade Haven.” A “Pay Here” box was also attached to the cooler cart, and a chalkboard sign that stated the shop’s operating hours was placed nearby.
lynewsdaily claimed that the cooler was filled with various $4 cake pops, and that Stott had taken a piece. However, the husband of the bakery owner, Adam Walters, shared a still shot of Stott from doorbell camera footage to call out the Amazon driver for failing to pay on a local Facebook group.
Amazon driver pays back the cake pop
“If anyone knows this Amazon driver, please tell him to come back and pay my wife for the cake pop he took,” Walters said in his post. “She works hard to put out these amazing goodies for ya’ll and would really appreciate all the love and support.” In the same post, Walters also promoted his wife’s home bakery by offering customers one free cookie on their next visit if they follow and leave a review on their bakery’s page.
Upon seeing the post, Stott identified himself and apologized for misunderstanding the signs. “Im the driver the entire thing was my not paying attention. I saw ‘help yourself’ and when i open the ice chest some of the treats said free,” Stott said in a screenshot of his comment. “I was in a [hurry] and should’ve paid better attention but nothing was done out of malicious intent. Thank you for everyone who had my back. Also dont let this ruin a business.”
Stott’s wife, Wensday, also left a comment and shared a screenshot of a $5 transaction sent to Homemade Haven from a Breanna Stott. “I paid for the cake pop. My husband commented below explaining the misunderstanding,” she said.
According to lynewsdaily, Wensday had shared her fears that the incident would lead to Amazon terminating her husband’s employment with the company. The Stotts currently have four children and are allegedly struggling financially, lynewsdaily said.
Florida bakery faces boycott
While the Stotts have paid for the cake pop, lynewsdaily claimed that Walters continued to accuse the Amazon driver of stealing and refused to apologize despite others’ advice. “Yeah, let me apologize for someone stealing from me and calling them out. Make it make sense,” Walters said. This isn’t the first time a delivery driver was accused of stealing, as a similar incident happened to an Uber driver involving 300 cinnamon rolls.
Following the incident, many viewers poured out their support for Stott and criticized the bakery for calling out someone over a simple mistake. “Who else is boycotting @HMHporchbakery,” one commenter wrote. Another said, “The fact that he thought it was free and still only took 1 tells you he had no bad intentions… I hope people stop supporting this bakery.”
Others claimed that the bakery’s wording on their signage also invites some confusion. A commenter wrote, “Treat yourself to me implies it’s free.” Another pointed out that the porch bakery seemingly didn’t have any visible signs with the price listed, saying, ’Treat yourself’ and no sign with the price or anything…. Disgusting company.”
On Aug. 26, Stott expressed his gratitude for the support he received in the same Florida-based group. “I never thought eating a cake pop would change my life so drastically. Thank you for all the support everyone!” Stott said. As of writing, the original post by Walters had been deleted, and the bakery continues to face public backlash.
