Minneapolis Man Orders Old Fashioned on a Date. Then He Leaves a Suspicious Note for the Female Server

Working as a female server sometimes means getting unwanted attention from men. Restaurant workers report customers leaving phone numbers, making comments, or, more concerningly, taking things into harassment territory.
Recently, however, one woman says she got attention from a table she wasn’t expecting it from: One where a couple was sitting.
In a TikTok video that got over 144,300 views, TikTok creator Ally Dudgeon (@allydudgeon) explains how it went down, asking viewers how she should handle it.
What Happened During Her Shift?
Dudgeon says the event happened during an otherwise normal Tuesday night shift.
“Something kind of weird happened,” she says. “Maybe I’m overthinking it, but my co-workers thought it was weird, too.”
During her shift, a man and woman who appeared to be in their 20s or early 30s came in together.
“And they were very sweet, very cute,” Dudgeon says.
Both ordered Old Fashioneds, followed by an appetizer. The man later ordered an entree, while the woman didn’t. Then, both ordered another drink.
According to Dudgeon, nothing about their behavior seemed unusual. After around an hour to an hour and a half, the man asked for the bill and gave Dudgeon his card.
She processed the payment, returned the receipt, thanked the couple, and walked away.
It was only after they left that things got weird.
“I went to pick up the receipt after they had left, and he had written on it, ‘you have really pretty eyes,’ smiley face,” Dudgeon says. “And his phone number.” She included a photo of the note.
Immediately, she had questions.
“Am I missing something here?” she asks. “Like, were you not just on a date with your girlfriend? Like, does she know you wrote that on the receipt? Like, was it your sister?”
Still curious, Dudgeon considered doing what the note invited her to do.
“I kinda wanna text him and be like, what’s going on here?” she says. “I’m so curious.”
And eventually, she did.
She Texted Him And Got An Unexpected Answer
Dudgeon later returned with an update, and the situation turned out to be even stranger than she initially thought.
She says she texted the man and directly asked whether he’d been on a date with the woman sitting across from him.
“I was on a date,” he responded, according to Dudgeon.
In fact, she says she found out it was their third date.
However, viewers who had been studying the handwriting on the receipt had apparently picked up on something Dudgeon hadn’t.
“A lot of people were conspiring that the handwriting on the receipt was girl’s handwriting, and most people would be correct,” she says.
According to the man, his date had in fact written the compliment and left his phone number.
Dudgeon then asked why. “I think she thought you were pretty and was trying to get me in trouble,” he reportedly told her.
She says she wasn’t sure whether the woman had actually told him this or whether he was interpreting her intentions himself.
Eventually, the man told Dudgeon that his date seemed to be getting humor out of the entire situation.
Dudgeon, meanwhile, says she would still like to hear the woman’s version of events.
“I would love to hear her side of the story, though, because I feel like men sometimes just don’t get it,” she says. “They think they’re on the same page as you and they’re reading a completely different book.”
Other Servers Say Couples Have Hit On Them Too
Restaurant workers have previously shared stories about couples propositioning them together.
In one r/TalesFromYourServer thread, a former server asked other workers how often couples had propositioned them. The poster said it happened three times while they worked in sports bars during college.
One server recalled turning down a couple by pointing to their wedding ring.
“Had a couple proposition me about 2 years ago, I showed them the ring on my finger. Sorry, i’m married,” they wrote. “Dude goes, Oh, he can watch too! and offered me a $100 bill to ‘just think about it’.”
Rather than take them up on it, the server said they pocketed the money and went home. “Took the $100 and went home to have a good laugh with my husband,” they wrote.
Another server said this happened to them three times during a single weekend.
“One weekend in New Orleans this happened to me three times,” they wrote. “I politely said no thanks as that city is sketch AF and I didn’t want to star in a True Crime documentary.”
Viewers Are Suspicious Of The Couple
Some viewers immediately wondered whether the couple had been trying to involve Dudgeon in something together.
“Looking for a unicorn,” one commenter wrote.
Another pointed out that there could be several explanations. “My ex bf used to do that, give his number out while we were together, I’ve also had guy friends where I was the wing woman so idk lol. Unless if they are poly??” they wrote.
Meanwhile, another viewer thought Dudgeon had already learned enough about the pair. “Girl, just move on. These people are nuts,” they wrote.
