‘What Happened, Sharon?’: Man Attends Wedding. Then the Best Man Reveals He Had a Shocking Deal With the Bride

A TikToker’s wedding story has left millions of viewers demanding answers. A creator said he witnessed what he called the “most insane [expletive] up wedding” he had ever attended. Yet, he left before finding out how the story ended.

The video shared by @thestorytella_ has received around 7.6 million views. Viewers became increasingly invested in the unfinished story.

What happened at the wedding?

According to the TikToker, he was invited to the wedding by a friend. He said he was only an acquaintance of the bride and groom. He did not expect to become part of a dramatic wedding story.

Everything appeared to be normal at first. The ceremony and reception went on without incident.

Then came the speeches.

What did the best man reveal?

The best man took the microphone and began talking about his longtime friendship with the groom.

He said he had known the groom for more than 17 years.

The storyteller also revealed that he had known the bride since college and claimed that he even introduced them to each other.

Then he dropped the detail that changed the entire mood of the wedding.

The best man claimed that he and the bride had made a pact years earlier. If neither of them was married by the age of 31, they would marry each other.

He continued by saying that the bride eventually turned 31 without getting married.

According to his story, the two friends came together on her 31st birthday. They spent a week doing different activities together. They even hooked up during that time. Ultimately promising that they would be together.

But there was one major problem.

The bride was now standing at the wedding altar with someone else.

‘What happened, Sharon?’

The best man said that only a few weeks after their week together, the groom unexpectedly proposed to the bride.

She accepted.

That was when the best man repeatedly asked the bride, “What happened, Sharon?”

He did not appear to accuse either the bride or groom directly. Instead, he said that the bride and groom were both great for each other.

The best man then dropped the microphone and walked away.

The speech reportedly sent the wedding into chaos.

 What happened after the speech?

@thestorytella_ said guests began recording what happened as the situation unfolded.

There was only one problem.

He did not stay.

The creator said he left the wedding before finding out what happened between the bride, groom and best man.

That left viewers with the same question he apparently had.

Why is the internet angry with the TikToker?

Many commenters were less concerned with the wedding itself. They were more concerned with the creator’s decision to leave before finding out how everything ended.

One commenter, @InmyHead, wrote, “Men are so bad at getting all the tea of a story WDYM you left???”

Another commenter, @Brandy said, “Bro… YOU NEVER LEAVE. You get the whole Tea.”

The reactions turned the video into its own kind of cliffhanger. Viewers had been given the setup, the shocking revelation and the wedding chaos, but not the ending.

Do best men cause wedding drama?

The bizarre speech in @thestorytella_’s story may sound extreme. However, best men and groomsmen have been at the center of other wedding disasters.

In 2022, BuzzFeed asked its community to share their worst groomsmen stories. The resulting roundup included 16 accounts of wedding-party members creating chaos. 

One person recalled a best man becoming so drunk after the ceremony that he threw up on other groomsmen and eventually wandered away from the wedding. Another described a best man who drank heavily before his speech and ended up making little sense in front of the wedding guests.

There were also stories involving much more personal drama. One bride said a groomsman brought her husband’s uninvited ex-girlfriend to the wedding.  Another recalled a best man creating problems surrounding the wedding.

The stories show why the best man’s role can be a delicate one. Traditionally, the best man is expected to support the groom and help make the wedding memorable. But as these accounts suggest, that attention can quickly become unwanted. Especially when a wedding-party member turns the spotlight onto themselves.

However, @thestorytella_’s viral story’s best man did not simply make an inappropriate joke or get too drunk. He used his wedding speech to reveal a years-old pact with the bride, and left everyone to deal with the fallout.

 Did the bride and groom stay together?

That remains the biggest unanswered question from the creator’s story.

It is also important to note that @thestorytella_ said he was only an acquaintance of the couple. His account was therefore based on what he personally witnessed at the wedding and what the best man said during the speech.

For viewers, that may be the most frustrating part.

The internet got the wedding drama. It got the shocking speech. It got the microphone drop.

But viewers were left on a cliffhanger.
