She Saw a Ghostly Stranger in Her Oregon Home. After an Ancestry.com Test, She Found Out Who The Woman Was

Some people can visit a place they’ve never been to before and feel at home immediately. When a woman purchased a house with her husband in Florence, Oregon, she walked into the home as though she knew it like the back of her hand. An unexpected encounter and an Ancestry.com test would later explain her strange, yet heartfelt, connection with this quaint home.

“I wanted it before I even saw the whole thing,” Kaycee Not Anthony (@kaycee_not_anthony) narrated on TikTok. The story was submitted to her by a follower, who wanted to share her uncanny experience. The woman said that although the home was a little neglected and older, she didn’t get spooked by the property. As soon as the realtor opened the door, the woman said she walked past her and straight into the kitchen.

“I already felt like I knew where I was going,” she said. The realtor supposedly joked about the woman finding the kitchen. While they were doing the house tour, she felt a sense of homesickness weighing on her, which didn’t make sense to her. She had never been in the property before, but somehow, she felt like she knew the place.

“I knew the linen closet would stick before I opened it. I knew there was a window at the boarded-up section of the attic,” the woman said. She and her husband eventually purchased the home, and a few nights later, her husband told her she had sleepwalked to the kitchen.

“I’m waiting for her to come home,” she allegedly told her husband as she stood in the kitchen. She said she had no memory of it until he brought it up. But it wasn’t the only strange thing to happen in the home.

A Stranger Welcomed Her Home

A month later, she said she started smelling the scent of roses and baby powder at the bottom of the stairs, the upstairs hallway, and by her bedside. Then, she noticed things around the house had slightly moved from their original positions. At one point after coming from work, she found an old music box on the kitchen counter. She initially thought it was left behind by the previous owner of the house, so she left it in the attic. Two days later, she and her husband found the music box downstairs.

“That’s when we started joking around, saying we had a ghost,” the woman said. Were they going to move out, jumping out of the window like this woman who ran away from her Appalachian home after seeing strange figures at the treeline? Not quite, and the couple eventually got around to renovating the attic.

They found a metal box wedged between the old floorboards. Upon checking, it contained old family photos. Her eyes followed a woman who was always present in the photos, and she said that something about the woman’s face made her feel a sense of familiarity.

“I put the photographs away, but a few weeks later, I saw her standing at the top of my stairs. I don’t mean I saw something out of the corner of my eye—I saw a woman,” she claimed. The woman was wearing a nightgown, with one hand resting on the railing. Her eyes met the woman’s, and instead of running, she felt grief course through her.

“This was the part that still bothers me. I wasn’t scared. I started crying,” she said. The woman disappeared before she could reach the stairs.

An ancestry.com Test Changed Everything She Knew About the House

“I was adopted. I’d known that my entire life,” the woman claimed. She had a good childhood and didn’t feel the need to search for her biological parents. But curiosity got the best of her when she turned 30, and she decided to take an Ancestry.com test. She found a genetic match who was apparently related to her biological mother.

They started speaking to each other, and she eventually asked for a photo of her mother. When she got a photo from her relative, she couldn’t believe her eyes—it was the woman from the attic, the woman who appeared at the staircase. She called her husband to show the photo without saying a word, and he recognized her immediately as the woman from the photos they found.

“I asked my biological relative where my mother had lived. She told me she wasn’t sure of the exact address anymore, but she remembered the street—my street,” she revealed. The home she’s been living in for four years turned out to be her biological mother’s home. It’s also where she passed away, in the bedroom her daughter now sleeps in.

When she told her relative about the roses and baby powder smell, she said her relative broke down. It was apparently her mother’s perfume. While she hasn’t seen her mother’s apparition since finding out about the home’s history, the scent of roses and baby powder would manifest whenever she has a rough day.

“Before my biological mother died, she told her sister there was one thing she regretted more than anything. She wished she could have brought her daughter home. I just don’t think that either of them knew that one day, I would find my own way back,” she said. She found out about her mother for the better. But another man isn’t so lucky with his estranged father, whose criminal history he found on Google.
