A woman just wanted to get a piece of furniture for her vanity table. But, instead, a trip to TJ Maxx turned her shopping trip into a battle of discounts, managers, and what was allegedly petty revenge. Florida-based TikTok content creator, @ciprianamuhdi, shared in a video her experience trying to buy her dream chair at a discount, only to find it allegedly ruined with red markings.

According to ciprianamuhdi, she was building her own custom vanity and needed a chair to finally complete it. Considering the DIY nature of her project, ciprianamuhdi sought out a budget-friendly chair at HomeGoods. She claimed to have stumbled on a chair she liked that was marked down to somewhere between $250 and $275.

Hoping to get a further markdown, ciprianamuhdi claimed to have seen a TikTok video alleging that the last two numbers on a clearance tag could signify another potential discount. According to ciprianamuhdi, she approached a TJ Maxx manager to ask if the chair she was eyeing will have another markdown, believing its last markdown to be several months prior.

The chair got an unexpected makeover at TJ Maxx

ciprianamuhdi claimed the female manager already had a less-than-stellar personality when the TikToker approached her. When they went to check the chair, the manager allegedly told ciprianamuhdi, “It’s been discounted already. Do you want it or not?” Despite ciprianamuhdi claiming the chair hadn’t been marked down in a while.

ciprianamuhdi decided not to purchase the chair at nearly $300. According to her, she decided to return two days later in the hopes of getting a stool. But instead, she allegedly discovered the chair she was eyeing had been marked down to $199. “So, I was like, ‘So it was supposed to be discounted. Like, I f*****g knew it,’” she said.

ciprianamuhdi’s excitement on the markdown was short-lived, claiming that the chair had also gotten an unwanted makeover—red markings. “It was at $199, but there are red marks all over it. […] It looks like someone took a marker and X-ed all over the arms and down the side of the chair and the front,” the content creator said.

According to ciprianamuhdi, a TJ Maxx employee tried to help remove the markings without fruition. She said she was eventually able to ask for a further markdown after allegedly telling a different manager she was willing to take the chair, but wasn’t sure if the markings could be removed. In the end, ciprianamuhdi took home her dream vanity chair for $125 and was able to remove the red marks easily at home.

The origin of the red markings were suspicious

ciprianamuhdi’s suspicion regarding the origin of the red marks solidified when her beau allegedly agreed that it “was that manager,” compounded with what she claimed was the first manager’s rude attitude. “That’s giving ugly. Because, like, you’re a manager, shouldn’t you want to sell s**t?” ciprianamuhdi said. She claimed her father and friends also reached the same conclusion.

While there is no solid proof that the female manager did actually vandalize the chair, nor did the manager deliberately do it because she knew ciprianamuhdi would return, many viewers agreed on the TikToker’s suspicion. “Why tmaxx managers be spiteful like that.. like the money is coming out of their pockets,” one commenter said.

Some viewers also defended the manager, claiming that there is a binder that employees refer to for markdowns: “Employees don’t know when the items will be marked down. That is in fact true.” One user also criticized the TikToker for accusing someone with no proof: “You can’t accuse someone of doing something if you don’t have any evidence that she did it!” Either way, the mystery of how the red markings came to be remains, but at least she didn’t discover something crawl out of it like one woman did.
