In an exclusive statement to People, Grande’s representative confirmed that the singer plans to take “a step back from visibility” after the tour concludes on Sept. 1.
“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” the representative said.
It is also confirmed that she has dropped out of Stephen Sondheim’s West End revival of ‘Sunday in the Park With George’, which she was set to star in alongside Jonathan Bailey.
While the statement doesn’t point to a single incident, People notes that Grande has faced increasing public scrutiny surrounding her weight in recent years. According to the outlet, discussion intensified again following the release of the music video for her latest single, ‘Petal,’ with social media users once again dissecting her appearance.

According to People, a source close to the singer described her new album, Petal, as “a fight song” about “the love-hate relationship with the public and their toxicity,” adding that the project isn’t about a romantic relationship but instead reflects Grande’s complicated relationship with public attention.
