Guests usually remember a wedding for the food. In this case, the meal got people talking, but it wasn’t the only detail that caught viewers’ attention.
A TikTok video posted by @wedding_girlie showcasing one bride’s budget-friendly wedding has drawn attention online. The clip follows the couple’s celebration and the different choices they made throughout the day.
The couple found different ways to reduce costs across the celebration instead of relying on expensive wedding traditions. Several of those choices were highlighted throughout the video.
The budget-friendly ideas didn’t stop at the food
The video highlights what the creator describes as a $9,000 budget wedding, saying it “went viral for a reason” because of its practical and affordable ideas. Instead of a traditional catered meal, the bride served McDonald’s burgers to her guests. She also skipped a large wedding cake and chose cake pops instead.
Other cost-saving ideas appeared throughout the reception. Guests who wanted a break from formal shoes could use a dancing shoe station, while children were given activity boxes to keep them entertained.
Another budget-friendly idea appeared after the ceremony. Rather than hiring a photographer for the entire day, the bride placed QR codes on every table so guests could upload their own photos to a shared online album. The creator said everyone could access the album, giving guests a way to view and share pictures from the celebration.
The comments quickly filled with different opinions, particularly about serving McDonald’s at a wedding. “I would swap McDonald’s for Chick fil a,” one viewer wrote. Another commented, “I understand fasho. But ngl I’m pissed if I’m eating micky D’s for a wedding. Might as well pull up in some jeans….”
Some viewers questioned whether $9,000 should even be considered a budget wedding. “9k on a budget??? how much are weddings normally??” one person asked.
Others compared the cost with their own weddings. “My mom’s first wedding was 50 bucks. Second wedding was 200 bucks,” one commenter wrote. “My wedding was under 9,” another added. A different viewer said, “Approximately 75 people for our wedding, coming in around $12k.”
Wedding planning has become a recurring topic on TikTok, from couples finding creative ways to manage costs, including one bride who held a Jack-and-Jill fundraiser to help pay for her wedding, to others sharing unexpected challenges, such as one bride who said more than 100 guests who had RSVP’d ultimately did not attend her wedding.
Not everyone was concerned about the price. Some questioned why weddings needed to be expensive in the first place. “See? Weddings are pointless to me. I’m ok with having a 5 minute ceremony in McDonald’s parking lot. Why are weddings so important? Never understood this,” one commenter wrote.
Others said they liked nearly every idea except the fast-food meal. “Everything except the food!” one person commented, while another wrote, “No one likes cold ass fast food. Be so for real.”
Others compared the bride’s budget with weddings they had attended or paid for themselves. “My exwifes parents spent 150k btw,” one viewer claimed. Some argued that the food choice was not necessarily as cheap as it seemed. “I would argue that McDonald’s is overpriced food lol but yeah, in the grand scheme of things, it is definitely a better price than any catering,” another commenter wrote.
Others praised the couple for avoiding a much larger bill. “Applause to them. People spend tens of thousands of dollars for a four hour party. A four….hour….party,” one person commented.
