Ex-Correctional Officer Shocked After Inmate of 37 Years Is Exonerated. He Invited Her to Dinner: ‘He Never Seemed Like He Fit In.’
The justice system isn’t perfect, and some innocent individuals are wrongfully convicted of crimes they didn’t commit. Cindy Casperson (@proud_viking2), a former correctional officer, talked about one notable inmate whose exoneration surprised her.
Casperson claimed that Bob was one of the maintenance inmates, that she was his dorm sergeant and noted his stellar work ethic and his positive attitude.
“Anything you asked that man to do, he was on it like white on rice. You could wake that man up with a blown pipe in the middle of the night, and he would get dressed to a T,” Casperson told TikTok. Essentially, the man showed up for the job without complaint and made it a point to look presentable. While some inmates may look to rule the grounds, Bob seemed like he kept in line and did what was asked of him.
“The man never complained, and he was always in a good mood,” Casperson added. She would eventually quit working for the Department of Corrections when she stumbled upon an article with a headline about a man who got exonerated after 37 years in prison. Attached to it was a picture of Bob, the same man she’d kept watch over as a dorm sergeant.
“Bob was up there with Bull, okay? They were on the same bracket,” she said of another inmate. Despite the surprising news, she had a feeling that Bob was different from other inmates.
“He never seemed like he fit in. He was always in a good mood, always working hard,” Casperson stated. She further explained that Bob got exonerated after DNA testing proved that he was not guilty of his crime.
Two correctional officers and a former inmate had a reunion
“He deserved to have a good life because he was such a good guy,” Casperson said. But as she was cheering him on, she would later receive an unexpected message from Bob.
She checked her Facebook Messenger, and it was Bob. Casperson answered the call, and Bob supposedly checked in on her. Then, he gushed about the news of his exoneration, to which Casperson congratulated him.
“Do me a favor. Let me take you and Maddie out to dinner,” Bob allegedly told Casperson. Maddie was another correctional officer during his time in prison.
“For what reason?” Casperson said, confused by the sudden offer. But then, Bob supposedly told Casperson that he appreciated the way the two officers treated him.
“He said Maddie and I treated him like a human being—[we] did not treat him like an inmate or even a convict. We treated him as a human being, and he had the utmost respect for us,” Casperson explained. After which, Casperson went out with Bob and Maddie to Mellow Mushroom, a popular pizza joint. They hugged, and Casperson said that they even took a group photo.
“Oh, and he’s set for life. He did lawsuits for the state and the county and won,” Casperson stated. After their time out, Casperson stated that she and Bob still keep in touch. She even claimed that he dated an officer six months after he had gotten out of prison.
Who is Bob?
The story went viral on social media. Because of this, people were curious about Bob’s identity. One commenter on Casperson’s TikTok guessed that the man in question was Robert DuBoise, who was convicted of capital murder and attempted sexual battery. He was supposed to serve a life sentence but was exonerated through DNA evidence after 37 years in prison. Casperson replied to the comment and claimed that the ‘Bob’ in her story was Robert DuBoise.
