Man Goes on a Hinge Date to a Restaurant Where the Menu Has No Prices. 2 Hours Later He’s Paying $1,100: ‘She Just Sat Back in Her Seat’

First dates often come with awkward moments. Sometimes those moments stay between the two people involved. Other times, they end up becoming the kind of stories that spread across social media.

That appears to be what happened after a TikTok creator @christiancooks99 shared his experience of meeting a woman through Hinge. What started as a dinner date soon turned into a conversation about restaurant etiquette, expensive meals, and whether either person handled the evening the right way.

The creator says the date ended with a restaurant bill of $1,100 before tip after the pair dined at a French restaurant. The story has since drawn attention online, with viewers questioning the cost of the meal and the decisions made throughout the night.

Things got awkward before the check arrived

The creator says he originally suggested a Mexican restaurant, but the pair later agreed on a French restaurant. He says he noticed the online menu had no prices but did not think much about it before the date.

After they were seated, he says his date ordered wine in French, and he chose the same bottle after asking for a recommendation. Later, he learned the bottle cost $340.

The creator also recalls feeling increasingly aware that his date seemed much more familiar with fine dining. He says she spoke with the waiter in French while ordering her meal, while he depended on recommendations because he could not understand many of the menu items.

The creator also says he ordered his steak cooked medium, but it arrived medium rare. Even though it was different from what he requested, he says he enjoyed it and decided there was no reason to complain.

When another waiter stopped by to ask whether everything was satisfactory, the creator says he praised the steak and considered the matter finished. His date, however, saw the situation differently.

He says she questioned why he accepted a meal that was not prepared the way he ordered it. Before he could stop her, she called the waiter back to the table.

She told the waiter, “My date ordered his steak medium. You served him medium rare. He’s been way too polite to not say anything.” The creator says he told the waiter he had no complaints and enjoyed the steak.

He says the meal cost $1,100 before tip. The wine cost $340, his steak was $95, and the appetizer was $45, though he did not provide a full breakdown of the remaining charges.

The video has since sparked discussion in the comments. Some viewers questioned how the total reached $1,100, while others said it showed why first dates are better kept simple. One commenter wrote, “That doesn’t add up to $1100.” Another added, “What happened to coffee dates? First date to a fancy place like this is a no that’s a 2nd/3rd date thing.”

The conversation has also drawn attention to other first dates that have gone viral for unexpected reasons. In one recent case, a New York woman said a match taught her never to agree to coffee dates after spotting what she believed was a major red flag. In another, a woman left before the food was even served, showing how dating app meetups can quickly take an unexpected turn.
