Atlanta Man Asked Front Desk for Help with His Room Key. The Hotel Employee Ran to the Bathroom and Cried 'I Am Not a Slave!'

It’s a hotel staff’s job to smooth out issues a customer might have during their stay. Cody (@atlcody) went to the front desk for help. What was supposed to be an easy interaction ended with the employee running to the bathroom to cry.

Cody from Atlanta booked a hotel in France through Expedia. When he got back to the hotel, he realized that he forgot his keycard in the hotel room. He approached the front desk and asked the employee for a spare keycard so that he could open his room door.

The employee gave him one, but when Cody used the keycard, the knob flashed red. He couldn’t open the door, so he came back down to the front desk and told the employee about the issue.

The employee checked the card and tapped it on a testing device and insisted that it works. Cody said that regardless, the keycard wasn’t working on his room door.

“Perhaps you are drunk, or you go to the wrong floor,” the employee allegedly accused Cody. He denied both allegations.

“Well, what do you want me to do? I’ll make it for you?” the employee said. At first, Cody merely thought that French customer service was just not satisfactory. Nevertheless, the employee gave him a second keycard as a replacement.

But as Cody was about to walk away, he made the mistake of asking for the employee’s name.

The employee had a meltdown

“Why do you want my name?” The man apparently got defensive. Cody wanted to know because he had been speaking to the same man about the issue, and yet, he wasn’t getting a resolution.

“I shall not tell you my name,” the employee insisted. When Cody asked if there was a problem, the man allegedly flew into a fit of rage.

“You know what? I quit this [expletive] job!” Cody said that the man started cussing. The man acted as though he had been bullied and publicly humiliated by Cody.

“I make you a key, and you are rude! I am not a slave!” The employee apparently continued, and Cody was speechless. He didn’t expect this kind of reaction from the man. The man rambled on about how he is not a slave. He continued his impassioned speech, saying that he doesn’t work for Cody just because he has been paying $200 a night as a guest of the hotel.

The situation continued to escalate when one of the man’s colleagues came out. Cody said that the man started talking about him in French to his co-worker. He allegedly cut the man off, asking him not to speak about him in French behind his back.

“I talk about you in French because we are in France. If you don’t like French, don’t be here,” the man told him. But the man wasn’t done apparently.

“I cannot take this job! I hope they fire me!” The man said, and Cody was still confused because all he asked for was a working keycard to his room. But just when Cody thought it was over, the man ran away from him and locked himself in the bathroom to cry.

“This is the most ridiculous moment of my life,” Cody said, exasperated by the situation.

Did he get into his hotel room?

In a follow-up video, Cody explained that the man eventually finished crying in the bathroom. Then, he made a third hotel room keycard for Cody.

When he told the employee about the same issue for the third time, he lost it on Cody. He was still insisting that the keycard is not the problem. This time around, Cody decided to record the encounter.

The employee finally accompanied him to his hotel room. When he used Cody’s keycard to open the door, the attempt failed. Seeing the error, the employee used the master key to open the door. But he didn’t hold the door long enough for Cody to get in.

“Does it work?” Cody didn’t just ask to be sarcastic, but it was also to ensure that he wouldn’t be locked out again. Instead, the man grabbed the keycard from Cody. He then spat on Cody and threw the key in his direction. To top it all off, the employee told Cody to “swallow it.”

After a stairwell chase and further pleading with the employee, Cody was finally able to get in his room. He later stated that he was going to address the situation with Expedia and switch hotels.
