Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding Has a Lot of People Talking Online

It’s a love story, alright. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have officially gotten married at a private (and star-studded) ceremony on Friday, July 3rd at New York’s Madison Square Garden arena.

The news of the wedding was confirmed around 7:30pm ET, via a press release from Swift’s personal publicist, Tree Paine. It was also announced through a message on the video screens outside of Madison Square Garden. The text of the message said “JUST&T MARRIED!”, a reference to the “T&T” nickname that the pair have used throughout their relationship.

According to Paine’s statement, the couple’s “wedding ceremony looks” were courtesy of Dior, with custom-made Louboutin shoes and Swift wearing Cartier jewelry. Instead of having bridesmaids or groomsmen, Swift’s “Man of Honor” was her brother, Austin Swift, while Kelce’s Best Man was his brother, Jason Kelce. The ceremony was officiated by comedian Adam Sandler (something that plenty of Swifties have joked was not on their proverbial bingo cards), who attended Swift’s Eras Tour and later co-starred alongside Kelce in Netflix’s Happy Gilmore 2.

At the time of this writing, photos have yet to surface from inside Swift and Kelce’s wedding, and many have speculated that the couple will post the first-look photos themselves in the coming days. Reports have also indicated that Stevie Nicks and Paul McCartney, both of whom are friends of Swift, might perform at the wedding reception.

The Fourth of July weekend is uniquely significant for Swift and Kelce’s relationship: in 2023, Swift posted photos of a party with friends (including Selena Gomez and the Haim sisters) with the caption “Happy belated Independence Day from your local neighborhood independent girlies ? See you tonight Kansas Cityyy.” Unbeknownst to her, Kelce would be in attendance at the Kansas City Eras Tour shows, armed with a friendship bracelet adorned with his phone number to give to her. Once Swift found out (via a viral clip from Kelce’s New Heights podcast) about the friendship bracelet, she privately reached out to him, and the rest is history.

Why Did Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Get Married at Madison Square Garden?

Even with the serendipity of that potential wedding date, the lead-up to the event has been marked with an avalanche of speculation, both from inside and outside of the Swiftie fandom. The Madison Square Garden location was first rumored last month, especially once Swift visited the venue to cheer on the New York Knicks during Game Four of the NBA Finals. But some had questioned whether Swift would really pick an arena for her wedding (or if MSG would be able to be transformed for such an affair), and whether or not it was really a decoy location.

There were also debates about the theoretical price tag of the wedding, the road closures that would be necessary for the event (which, admittedly, are not atypical for the area), fans’ ability to camp outside of the venue, and various other logistical concerns around New York City. Given the fact that Swift was bombarded by crowds of people while simply attending the wedding of Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley in 2023, there was a very high likelihood that she and Kelce were going to pick somewhere with heavy security, while still being able to control the narrative around it. Swift essentially said as much in her 2024 song “But Daddy I Love Him,” which has a lyric about how “no, you can’t come to the wedding.”

And as some were quick to argue on social media, any theoretical venue for the wedding — a private island, an undisclosed location, or even the backyard of one of Swift’s homes — would have been met with discourse and scrutiny anyway. Heck, in the hours before the wedding, some even compared the event to the recent and secretive nuptials of Tom Holland and Zendaya, even though that couple have notoriously kept many aspects of their relationship private.

Earlier this week, the pieces began to fall into place, as crew (some of whom were wearing crew-exclusive merchandise from Swift’s previous tours) were seen loading various pieces of equipment into MSG. Swift and Kelce then made headlines for having donated a total of over $26 million (the double of Swift’s lucky number, thirteen) to more than twenty different charities and food banks across the country.

And then finally, on Friday afternoon, a laundry list of celebrities connected to Swift and Kelce were photographed wearing black tie attire in New York. The guests photographed included, but certainly was not limited to: Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid, Zoe Kravitz, Dakota Johnson, Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke, Mariska Hargitay, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day and Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Jennifer Lopez, Benson Boone, The Chainsmokers, Sombr, Miranda Lambert, Camila Cabello, Machine Gun Kelly, The Chicks, and a number of Kelce’s colleagues in the NFL. (Karlie Kloss, whose close friendship with Swift was heavily documented during the 1989 era, was also photographed on the streets of New York alongside her husband Joshua Kushner, but many Swifties have speculated that the pair were heading to an unrelated dinner.)

While promoting her new album The Life of a Showgirl last October, Swift had joked on The Graham Norton Show that “anyone she’s ever talked to” will be on the guest list for the wedding, ultimately inviting Norton to the event on the spot.

“I know it’s going to be fun to plan, because I think the only stressful weddings are the ones where you have a small amount and you and people are on the bubble, right?” Swift said at the time. “And you have to evaluate or assess your relationship with them, to see if they should be there. Yeah, I’m not going to do that. There’s no bubble.”
