Ohio Woman Gets Catfished by Her Tinder Date, But Goes Bowling with Him Anyway. Then Came His Turn to Switch Shoes and She Gagged

A match on a dating app usually brings excitement. But a profile mismatch can instantly pivot your plans into a survival mission. For Ohio creator Appl, a Tinder date with a local match turned into a multi-part viral saga after her date unveiled a disturbing hygienic boundary.

In a pair of TikTok videos that have collectively captured over 560,000 views, Appl (@applfrittr11) detailed a deeply unsettling encounter with a Tinder match named Dominic. What should have been a standard first meetup quickly devolved into a permanent relationship warning.

A regular Mexican dinner turned to be a “catfished” moment for Appl

Things began on a Thursday night when Appl matched with Dominic on Tinder. They clicked so quickly over shared interests that they organized an official date for the very next evening. Arriving first at an El Vaquero Mexican restaurant near her house, Appl settled into a booth with chips and salsa while scanning the front doors for any sign of her companion.

The illusion of a seamless connection completely shattered the exact second Dominic walked through the door. While his Tinder profile listed his height at a tall 6’3″, the man who advanced to her table stood at roughly 5’3″ with jet-black hair and zero physical resemblance to his photos.

Excusing herself to the restroom to verify his account, Appl tried to rationalize the massive deception. She joked that he might have simply tapped the wrong number on his keyboard while entering his height. She then returned to the table to finish the dinner after deciding to treat the encounter with basic politeness

A heavy military combat summary set the stage for a bowling alley standoff

As they finished their meals, Dominic began detailing his past deployment days in the military. But he eventually shifted from casual army summaries to highly graphic, gruesome horror stories. During the intense breakdown, he revealed that his former best friend had tragically passed away in combat—a detail that Appl notes became highly critical later on.

Hoping to transition into a lighter environment, the pair decided to execute the second leg of their itinerary by driving separately to a local bowling alley. The true horror of the date occurred right at the shoe rental counter. The manager on duty informed Dominic that outside footwear was strictly prohibited on the wooden lanes.

Dominic reluctantly accepted the facility footwear, but Appl noticed he refused to put them on. Looking down at his feet for the first time, she made a bizarre discovery: his sneakers were wrapped in heavy duct tape and held together by metal staples at the toes.

A deeply disturbing shower routine led Appl to ghost her Tinder date for a lifetime

When Apple politely asked why he refused to change out of the damaged footwear, Dominic delivered an absolute bombshell. He explained that he was wearing those exact sneakers the day he found out his close friend had passed away in combat.

Because of the trauma, he claimed he had never taken the footwear off since that moment. He revealed that he keeps the duct-taped shoes on his feet even while taking a shower. Horrified by the extreme hygiene choice, Apple dodged a kiss in the parking lot and immediately ghosted Dominic.

The grand finale of the Tinder date nightmare took place a full two years down the line. On her first day attending an accounting lecture at Ohio State University (OSU), an eccentric student with massive, Guitar Hero-style spiked mohawk hair sat down directly beside her.

The stranger casually handed over an attendance sign-in sheet, addressing her directly by her name. Bewildered by how a random student knew her name, Appl cast her eyes straight down to the floor tiles. Standing right beside her desk were the exact same staple-and-duct-tape shoes, still on his feet two years later with an even thicker layer of tape wrapped around the edges.

Apple closed out her massive viral update by laughing at the absolute statistical impossibility of the incident. She proved that the ghosts of a bad Tinder date can occasionally track you all the way to graduation.
