On Thursday, the social reaction embargo for Supergirl was lifted, ahead of the film’s official debut in theaters on Friday, June 26th. The film, is the second feature-length outing for DC Studios, has a lot for critics and fans alike to discuss. Milly Alcock’s performance in the titular role, the story’s adaptation of Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic, and the addition of Jason Momoa’s long-awaited portrayal of Lobo were all sure to be hot-button topics, and these reactions prove it.

Our own Rachel Leishman wrote “SUPERGIRL is everything I wanted it to be. Girls can be messy and that rules! Kara isn’t her cousin and I really loved how this movie makes that clear. She’s a different kind of hero and perfect in every way.”

Who Let Us Out wrote “Supergirl starts off as a slow burn, but once it finds its footing, it soars. Milly Alcock is incredibly relatable, bringing heart, vulnerability, and strength to Kara’s journey of embracing her imperfections and discovering the power within. The film balances emotional character growth with some truly epic action sequences, while Jason Momoa’s Lobo is an absolute scene-stealer. He was born to play this role.”

Tessa Smith of Mama’s Geeky said the film was a “mixed bag” for her as a fan of the comic while Germain Lussier called it “incredibly emotional” which makes the action “hit even harder.”
