LA Model Finds a Rare Abercrombie and Fitch Jacket at Goodwill. Then the Register Lady Claims the Price Tag is Wrong

The ultimate victory at a thrift store is securing a high-end brand name for pennies. And Los Angeles-based model Brenna Nelson managed to secure that win by finding an Abercrombie & Fitch jacket at Goodwill. But the cashier had other plans.

In a fast-paced clip that has quickly spread across her TikTok network, Nelson (@brennanels0n) detailed an unbelievably frustrating exchange over a rare find at Goodwill. But thankfully, the intervention of a younger store supervisor saved her.

The clean, conversational account highlights the utter confusion that occurs when employees treat a corporate register like a private auction block. But Nelson proved that knowing your basic consumer rights is the ultimate shield against a surprise markup.

A high-end Abercrombie & Fitch jacket find triggered a thorough register inspection

The scenario initiated when Nelson managed to score a highly coveted Abercrombie & Fitch jacket hidden directly within the local Goodwill racks. Brimming with excitement over the massive wardrobe win, she marched up to the front counter to finalize the purchase.

The positive energy evaporated the second she placed the item on the counter. The cashier, an older woman in her 60s, immediately threw Nelson a highly suspect look and began aggressively unzipping, unbuttoning, and inspecting every single layer of the fabric before even looking at the receipt metrics.

The cashier attempted a retroactive markup on the jacket

As the employee began messing with the price sticker, Nelson politely stepped in to clarify that she hadn’t swapped any tags. The worker bluntly pushed back, claiming that the item had simply been marked entirely too low for its brand value. She also announced her intent to pull a manager over to manually raise the price.

Drawing on her own extensive history as a former store employee, Nelson completely rejected the logic. “As a former retail girl, like… you can’t do that,” she explained. She pointed out that attempting to alter the price of an item that is already actively displayed on the public floor constitutes false advertising.

A young store manager resolved the Abercrombie & Fitch jacket dispute

The standoff escalated when a very young supervisor came at the counter to evaluate the situation. The cashier aggressively argued that the premium coat should be adjusted to a significantly higher tier, pitching a baseline of $24.99.

The young manager immediately shut the markup down. He informed the clerk that a retroactive price hike is absolutely not how store operations work. The woman was forced to proceed with the lower tag price, throwing Nelson an intense glare as she begrudgingly cleared the transaction.

The end was a win-win for Brenna

Nelson closed out her viral summary by mocking the idea of an hourly worker over-investing in a company’s profit margins. Reflecting on her own low credit card sales stats from her corporate days, she joked that she could not have cared less about protecting a brand’s bottom line.

To top off the ultimate thrift victory, she revealed that she discovered a loose dollar bill inside the pocket. She urged her viewers to always check the pockets of your purchase before walking away.
