30-year-old Miami man starts dating 22-year-old woman. Then she finds out he’s married—and gets offered $100K to keep quiet

Anyone who has tuned into social media has noticed how much of a nightmare modern dating is. Once you think you’ve seen it all, each story time serves as a reminder to prove otherwise.
Despite having access to run a digital background check of potential suitors at your fingertips, secrecy is still a major issue. There has been the catfish, the scammer, of course, the classic liars hiding their marital status. Being married was one of a mountain of many skeletons in the closet of this woman’s friend’s summer flame.
“Um, Miami men are actually a different kind of psychotic,” TikTok creator Maggie Recco (@maggiereccoo) says, sitting in her car. “I’m gonna tell you a story that happened to my friend. She said I could say this.” Then, she spilled the tea to more than 28,000 viewers.
“For some backstory, she was dating this guy last summer, and he was older than her,” she says. “So, they dated. He wasn’t really her type, but she fell in love with him.”
Eventually, she says the boyfriend flew her friend out to New York for one of his work events, only for him to ghost her.
“He had a girlfriend, and she worked with him, and she was on the trip,” the content creator explains. “So, [the friend] ended up obviously breaking up with him.”
A year passed before Recco says the man reached out to her friend, which confused her. After all, the man’s relationship status was the reason why the friend broke it off.
“He [says] he wants her back and he’s gonna deal with the girlfriend tomorrow,” she says. “So, my friend gets a little curious, and she texts one of his friends and asks what the ex-girlfriend’s name is, so she can go and find her on Instagram.”
What Did The Friend Discover About Her Date?
While her friend investigated, she unearthed damning information. “It turns out that they have been married for six months,” Recco says. “Obviously, my friend starts tweaking out and is actually going insane.”
But wait, it’s only the tip of the iceberg. When her friend called the man to confront him, he attempted to buy her silence.
“He offered her $100,000 to not tell his [wife] that he’s been cheating,” she says. “She [declines] the $100,000 and tells the [wife]. They talk all day, sending all the receipts, everything.”
Then, the wife dropped a bombshell.
“They’ve been married for eight months, and she’s six months pregnant,” Recco shares. “So, not only does he not give an [expletive] about his future kid, he also doesn’t give an [expletive] about his marriage just to talk to my friend.”
Now, she reveals the one hundred thousand dollar question: why didn’t she accept the bribe?
“‘I did think about it but it’s not my character,'” she recalls her friend saying, adding. “’You’re gonna pay for it in a different way. It comes and bites you in the [expletive] in the end.’”
Before wrapping up, she didn’t just air the man’s dirty laundry to his wife.
“She also messaged his parents and showed them everything,” Recco concludes.
What Would Viewers Have Done?
Many would’ve unanimously tried to have their cake and eat it too: pocket the hush money and rat him out.
“I would have taken the money and told her,” one viewer commented.
“Get the money & tell her anyway,” another echoed.
A third provided more of a detailed explanation: “I mean, could you not take the [100k]and still tell her anyway, like that’s what I would probably do bc if he could lie, I could lie to him, no?”
How To Spot If Your Date Is Married
Adultery is an activity as old as time and remains a common problem in marriages today. Married.com revealed that approximately 20-25% of married men have been unfaithful to their spouses, though these numbers are self-reported. If you’re in the dating scene, you probably don’t want to end up as someone’s secret lover. Luckily, Couples Counseling highlights on their blog the signs to be aware of.
A general thumb to keep your eyes peeled for is secrecy, which can come in several forms. These include not talking about his friends or past, sharing where he lives, and a lack of social media presence. Up next is availability. Calling you at bizarre locations, being unavailable to text or call, or being unreachable on the weekends should set alarm bells.
The final indicators are paying cash to prevent a paper trail, and tan lines or indentation on the ring finger can signal he has a wife at home.
