Congress Republicans Pushing to Fund Trump’s White House Ballroom

After the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, MAGA influencers, GOP members, and President Donald Trump began promoting the construction of the White House ballroom. Although initially said to be privately funded, Republicans are now pushing for congressional funding for Trump’s project.
Trump immediately posted about his ballroom, arguing that its construction is a necessity for the safety of US presidents. The president argued, “For different reasons, every President for the last 150 years, have been DEMANDING that a large, safe, and secure Ballroom be built ON THE GROUNDS OF THE WHITE HOUSE.”
The claim is unfounded, as Trump is the only US president who has requested the construction of a ballroom.
Republicans Sen. Lindsey Graham, Sen. Katie Britt, and Sen. Eric Schmitt are creating a bill to fund the White House ballroom. Like those in support of the ballroom, Graham also said that it is necessary for Trump’s security.
A vanity project at the expense of taxpayers
“I’d like the vote as soon as possible to accelerate what America needs: a secure facility for the president and others to meet in, to have a good time, to enjoy themselves without putting the nation at risk,” South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham said.
“We’re gonna introduce a legislation that would authorize $400 million to be spent, to build the presidential ballroom. Underneath it will be a lot of military stuff,” Graham said. He estimated that $332 million in taxpayer money will be used for customization expenses.
Although Graham did not dismiss the idea of donations, he also said that these “should be used for buying China and stuff.”
According to Graham, Trump told him that the ballroom is not just for Trump but also “for future presidents.”
Previous White House Correspondents’ Dinners have come and gone without an armed shooter breaking into the event. Essentially, the issue is security and the performance of federal workers who were tasked with safeguarding the event. Even if a ballroom were to be constructed, lax security would still make it possible for a shooter to infiltrate.
Americans must now have a say
Sen. Britt from Alabama reiterated, “This isn’t even about him [Trump]. This will not be done until the end of his term. This is about future presidents.” She also criticized Democrats for attacking Trump’s ballroom, lauding the project as an “advancement for America.”
Except this ballroom will now be paid for by taxpayers. These same taxpayers are having their social safety nets, like Medicaid, slashed by the current administration. It’s one thing if Trump personally funds his pet project and another to now ask regular Americans to foot the bill for the ballroom.
A false flag for the White House ballroom
A popular online theory is that the White House Correspondents’ Dinner attack was used as a false flag. Essentially, the Trump administration staged the attack to justify the “necessity” of the ballroom. An ex-MAGA influencer, Ashley St. Clair, came out to allege that other influencers also have a group chat where they’re paid to coordinate messaging. St. Clair connected her theory as to why there has been an increase in pro-ballroom arguments.
Immediately coming to the conclusion that a White House ballroom is needed to secure the president is an unexpected angle. It comes off as a deliberate attempt to quash the criticisms of the ballroom as a “vanity project” under Trump.
More than ever, the Democratic Party has the obligation to question the necessity of the ballroom.
