AMC released the splashy, sexy, twisted and toe-tapping official trailer for The Vampire Lestat, also known as Interview with the Vampire Season 3. Ready to rock doesn’t even begin to cover it.

“Why music,” asks Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) in the trailer. “Why now?” That’s the thesis for the new season of AMC’s Anne Rice adaptation, and the trailer offers an answer for the question as well. He’s setting the record straight, in his own words, about his life story. His music and documentary will serve as a rebuttal to what the vampires Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Armand (Assad Zaman) told Molloy in their interviews.

The new footage features a cover of Billy Idol’s “Dancing With Myself,” which will be released on April 23. There are new looks at Louis, Lestat, Daniel, Armand, Nicky (Joseph Potter), and new characters including Lestat’s mother Gabriella (Jennifer Zegler) and his bandmates. There’s also, if you listen closely, a bit of Claudia (Delainey Hayles). It’s clearly the same show, just with a slightly different tone befitting the Brat Prince. The 90ish second trailer has something for everyone: Devil’s Minion crumbs, new music, the vampire Sam, and so much blood.

Why the pivot to Lestat?

Part of the show’s rebrand goes back to Rice’s novels. Each character has their own point of view and Rice gave them the chance to tell their own stories. That’s clearly what the show is doing as well. And when you think about it, the only time we saw the “real” Lestat was at the end of season 2 when Louis went to visit him in New Orleans.

So an entire show with Lestat telling his story is an exciting development for the series. That tied to Lestat’s rockstar ways makes The Vampire Lestat a thrilling new addition to the Interview with the Vampire series.
