Kim Jong Un just declared North Korea’s nuclear status ‘irreversible,’ revealing a chilling new reason why he will never trust U.S.

Kim draws the red line.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has just declared his nation’s nuclear status “irreversible,” making it crystal clear that he won’t be swayed by any “sweet talk” from the United States again. This chilling announcement came with strong accusations against the US, particularly linking President Donald Trump’s past actions to North Korea’s need to permanently secure its nuclear arsenal.

Kim Jong Un didn’t mince words, directly accusing the US of engaging in “state terrorism” globally. According to the Daily Express, he specifically lamented Trump’s war in Iran, using it as a prime example of why North Korea needs its nukes.

He made his stance absolutely clear, stating, “Today’s reality clearly demonstrates the legitimacy of our nation’s strategic choice and decision to reject the enemies’ sweet talk and permanently secure our nuclear arsenal.” This statement seems to directly reference the breakdown of talks with Trump back in 2019. Those discussions didn’t really go anywhere, and Kim actually ramped up nuclear missile production after that.

It seems like the 2019 interactions have really impacted Kim’s current perspective

The North Korean leader didn’t stop there. He went on to say, “We will continue to firmly consolidate our status as a nuclear-armed state as an irreversible course, while aggressively stepping up our struggle against hostile forces.” This isn’t just a declaration; it’s a commitment to a path that’s pretty hard to turn back from, and it sounds like they’re ready to push back hard against anyone they see as an adversary.

Kim also pointed out that the US and its allies are “constantly bringing nuclear strategic assets into the areas surrounding our country, shaking the foundations of regional security.” He believes this aggressive posturing from the US is a major reason why North Korea needs its own deterrent.

He continued to criticize the US, saying, “The United States is carrying out acts of state terrorism and aggression across the world, but the arrogant and reckless exercise of its power has not weakened progressive humanity’s will to oppose domination and subjugation and to achieve independence and equality.” From his perspective, the US is a global aggressor, and his country’s nuclear program is a necessary defense against such actions.

Kim Jong Un finished by asserting that his nation is no longer just a country under threat. He said, “I affirm that our nation is no longer a country under threat – we now possess the power to pose a threat if necessary.”

He also believes that “The solid construction of the nuclear shield firmly guarantees and drives the development of all sectors of the country, including the economy and culture, as well as the improvement of the people’s lives.” Clearly, Kim views the nuclear program not just as military defense, but as a foundation for national prosperity.

Estimates from 2025 suggest North Korea has around 50 nuclear weapons in its arsenal. On top of that, they’re reportedly producing enough fissile material for six to seven new nuclear weapons annually. The country is also thought to possess one of the largest stockpiles of chemical weapons globally which is a stark reminder of the significant capabilities North Korea has developed.
