Unqualified Erika Kirk Now Has a Job in the Government. All Because She’s a Widow?

Erica Kirk is now serving on the US Air Force Academy Board of Visitors. Donald Trump nominated her to the post this week. Social media is confused as to how the conservative voice found her way onto this board.

But, it seems like this is based more in virtue signaling for the MAGA base than any other real requirements. After doing a little digging, People discovered that Charlie Kirk previously served on the board. It would follow that his widow would take up a spot on the panel after Kirk’s murder in Utah last year. The White House’s spokesperson put out a statement after the news became public.

“President Trump made the perfect choice in appointing Erica Kirk to the US Air Force Academy Board of Visitors. Charlie Kirk all served proudly on the board, inspiring not only the next generation of service members, but millions around the world with his bold Christian faith, defense of the truth, and deep love of the country,” the spokesperson argued. “Erica Kirk will continue his legacy, and be a fearless advocate for the most elite airpower force in the history of the world whose warriors keep our nation safe, strong, and free.”

All this saber rattling in front of conservative media points to Kirk’s position being ceremonial in effect. Make no mistake though, this is how a partisan board operates in practice. Recent months have seen how different officers in branches of the military have approached the reality of what’s going on in the ground in Washington DC. It feels like there’s been more weight put on the scales for regular troops in recent years than ever before. Another day of the administration that would fuel a news cycle in a prior regime that only Registers as a blip on the radar today.

Erike Kirk is staying busy

It’s not even  The weeks not even over and Kirk is still on the move. This week she would also attend a press event down in Arkansas. But, there is some controversy as the state’s Republican Party used funds to facilitate the high profile visit. Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders flu turning point USA’s chairwoman out for a meeting about opening more Turning Point USA chapters in Arkansas high schools. On its own, not a crime. However, Young Democrats in Arkansas feel like the governor is putting her fingers on the scales of power. Local reporting by KATV 7 down in Arkansas collected statements from the Arkansas Democrats.

“Governor Sanders has flown in Erika Kirk to announce an abuse of her state power,” Young Democrats of Arkansas President Billy Cook told the press. “Let’s be clear, what she’s doing is wrong. We respect the rights of students to organize regardless of what political party they’re organizing for. When someone uses their state power and resources to try and unfairly influence our students, we will stand up and speak out about that overreach.”

Just like the president up in the White House, the campaign rules and norms that used to govern the American republic are hanging on by a thread. Usually when someone is appointed to one of these large government task forces, they would be expected to put their full weight and attention behind that position. Now, we have a reality where every single notable figure in society is always hustling for another opportunity. Another paycheck, and someone else to sell their ideology to.
