Does Netflix Still Share Passwords? What the Rules Actually Are

Years after paying Netflix to keep up with exclusive movies and dramas, one question lingers in everyone’s mind: can passwords be shared with someone else? And can more than one person use a Netflix account?
Simply put, people can share one billed account—granted that it’s a Netflix Household Account. A Netflix Household Account isn’t restricted to just profiles. The person watching through an account must be connected to the internet of the main place where Netflix is watched.
Extra members can be added into one main account, and they will have their own account, password, and profile. Basically, there is no need to password share, because the main account owner has authorized a sub-account.
Can an outsider use someone else’s Netflix account?
Technically, no—gone are the days where people can sign into someone else’s Netflix account just to get free Netflix access. Password sharing has been officially banned by the platform.
Unless that device is registered under the Netflix Household Account, then Netflix can restrict access to the foreign device. Additionally, VPNs are ineffective in skirting the ban since Netflix tracks IP addresses, account activity, and device IDs.
Access code workaround
If someone wants to access Netflix in a different location from an unknown device, sending an access code is also an option. Assuming that the person that wants to use the account owns it, then they can use the “I’m Traveling” option. This will grant the user an access code, which can be entered through the unknown device or television.
Note that the permission will only be valid for 30 days, after which the unknown device will be disconnected from the Netflix account. Another code will need to be sent from the device registered under the Netflix Household Sharing account to allow external logins.
This is particularly helpful for those on a vacation in different countries. But for those who are trying to skirt the ban, this is the most effective option.
