Glen Powell Gives Patrick Bateman Energy in New Poster for ‘How to Make a Killing’

Look at this! Shockingly, I’m talking about Glen Powell and Patrick Bateman. Things that never happen. (Sarcasm, obviously.)

One of my all time favorite things in this world is American Psycho. So any slight reference to the Bret Easton Ellis novel or the Mary Harron film has me excited. Luckily, one of my favorite actors, Glen Powell, has decided to often reference the story of the Wall Street serial killer.

First, he did an impression of Christian Bale’s Patrick Bateman in the 2024 film Hit Man from Richard Linklater. When one of the people he is trying to capture gives him American Psycho energy, Gary (Powell) crafts his hit man persona after the infamous character. Now, he’s giving me that Bateman energy once again.

The new John Patton Ford him How to Make a Killing stars Powell as Becket Redfellow, the heir to an $28 billion dollar fortune. The catch is that his family disowned his mother and the only way he can access said fortune is if everyone else in the Redfellow family dies. And now a new poster for the A24 film is leaning heavily on those Bateman vibes.

We shared one of the posters on our social media accounts that features Powell standing with “$28 billion inheritance. 7 relatives standing in the way,” written on the top. But the part that fascinates me is Powell’s suit and gloves combo.

The film has a lot of “influences” and Patrick Bateman definitely seems to be one of them

When the first trailer dropped, many thought of the 1949 film Kind Hearts and Coronets. Similarly, I thought of the musical A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder which is based on the same book as Kind Hearts and Coronets. So that’s kind of fun. But I also, in my Bateman loving ways, did instantly think of the murderous Wall Street elite.

Maybe the use of the gloves on the poster is just a fun nod to that aesthetic or maybe it is a conscious choice to give Powell a Patrick Bateman look but whatever the case is, I do love that it is leaning heavily into that vibe.

How to Make a Killing hits theaters on February 20.
