Woman asks for a new latte because she’s allergic to milk. Then the server sees what she ordered for lunch: ‘Stop making stuff up’

Another day, another allergy that only applies when it’s convenient. A woman sends her latte back because she’s “allergic to cow’s milk,” only for that concern to magically disappear the second butter and halloumi enter the chat.

The server, doing her due diligence, quickly realizes this isn’t a medical emergency at all. According to her, it’s an oat-milk personality trait. And just like that, the internet is once again divided into teams. Some debate whether this was a legitimate dietary nuance or just the boldest case of menu gaslighting to ever hit a brunch table.

‘You’re a Liar’

Dianiella (@daniellakalita) has some strong words for a certain subset of society. Her eighty-second rant has gained 376,000 views and kick-started a fiery discourse in the comments section.

The caption simply says, “POV: you’re a waitress.” Daniella begins the clip by saying, “Hey! Here’s an idea. Should we stop lying about our allergies in 2026?” Then, she sets the scene of how the conundrum she had just experienced at work played out.

Daniella delivers a matcha latte to a customer, to which the lady asks if it’s made with oat milk. Daniella goes back to the bar to double-check only to find out it’s not oat milk because the customer never specifically asked for it. She reports this to the customer and asks her if she wants the drink redone. The customer says yes because she’s “allergic to cow’s milk.” She gets her new drink.

Daniella, realizing the woman had also ordered food, shares this vital piece of information with the bar. Concerns were raised, and they approached the woman to warn her that the food she ordered had butter and halloumi as ingredients. The woman’s response? “That’s fine. I’m just allergic to milk.” Cue Daniella looking at the camera incredulously and shrieking, “Liar!”

Can Someone be Allergic to Only Cow’s Milk?

The argument Daniella is fighting for is that people cannot be allergic to cow’s milk but not butter.

“Are you flipping joking me? Who the hell is just allergic to cow’s milk but ‘I can’t have it in milk form but when it’s solidified, I am not allergic to it,’” she rants. Of course, it’s a tricky topic to explore, but it’s a logical assumption to think that being allergic to milk includes other dairy products like butter and halloumi too.

While the customer’s claim might appear contradictory, medical research suggests it isn’t necessarily so. Cow’s milk allergy is a reaction to milk proteins. Additionally, those proteins are present in very different amounts depending on the dairy product.

Butter, for example, contains mostly fat and only trace amounts of milk protein. A study published in the National Library of Medicine found that more than 86% of patients with confirmed cow’s milk allergy were able to tolerate butter without symptoms. In other words, avoiding milk in a drink while still eating certain dairy products does not automatically mean a person is lying about being allergic.

It’s very probable that Daniella is not aware of this study, as she concluded the video by saying, “Shut up. Stop being dumb in 2026. I hate people that make up allergies.”

Viewers are Suddenly Nutritionists?

Naturally, other viewers share similar experiences. One viewer states, “Had a customer say they was allergic to tomatoes but wanted ketchup.”

“I get ‘I have a diary allergy’ then they go and order our cheese pizza,” says another.

A third says, “The amount of people who say they are celiac when ordering food. and then when ordering cake, cake is fine because a little bit of gluten wont hurt.”

Lastly, a viewer says, “people saying they’re allergic to things that they just dont want on their plate not knowing how seriously you have to take an allergy as a serverlike no.. you’re not allergic to lettuce, you just don’t want it on your burger.”

Others tend to empathize with Daniella. “Pmo they don’t know the difference between intolerance and allergic. One can be fatal, the other makes your tummy hurt,” shares a viewer.

Another says, “Drives me insane as someone w crazy bad food allergies as well bc means people dont take me as seriously thinking im one of these ppl.”

One viewer says, “I can’t have milk in tea or coffee but hot chocolate is fine and so is cheese and chocolate and other dairy products. can we stop assuming people are lying about their health in 2026.”

Another says, “As someone who has/had an allergy or cows milk. There is a difference between cook and uncooked milk and it also can depend on the quantity of milk in the product. Shes not lying she could also be growing out of an allergy as you can develop a tolerance for baked milk.”
