Canadian PM Mark Carney just admitted to assisting Greenland in the future against America’s aggressive acquisition efforts

The Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, is clarifying his position on the Greenland/Denmark and the United States debate. While giving a speech during a recent public appearance, Carney revealed that Canada would be extending their support to Denmark if the US decides to invade Greenland, as the two countries are NATO members.
Mark Carney would be doing everything in his capacity to defend Denmark if the United States attempts to seek control of Greenland, and that includes, but is not limited to, the use of military force. In a recent speech, referenced previously, the video of which is currently being widely circulated on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), Carney can be seen revealing that Canada would be supporting Denmark and not the United States, as the latter plans to acquire Greenland by force. This is primarily because they are allies. Carney’s exact words in this context were:
“The future of Greenland is a decision for Greenland and for the kingdom of Denmark. We are NATO partners with Denmark and so our full partnership stands. Our obligations on Article 5, an Article 2 of NATO stand and we stand fully squared behind those.”
While Carney is kind of obligated to go against the United States in this scenario, this is not the first time that he has spoken against the United States. In the last couple of months, he has held his guard against the nation and especially its corrupt president, Donald Trump, on multiple occasions. Because, honestly, why shouldn’t he? First, Trump attempted to coerce Canada into becoming the 51st state of America, and then, when he figured that he would not be able to have his way, he started pressuring them through various tactics, including imposing stringent tariff policies. Since Trump’s war on Canada began, tariffs as high as 35 per cent became applicable on the country’s goods. For all Canadian goods not protected by the USMCA agreement baseline tariff was raised to 35 per cent (from 25 per cent as previously decided), while a 10 per cent energy tariff was imposed on Canadian energy resources. Canada’s response to all of this? Carney simply shifted his focus to other countries like China and attempted to forge trade relations with them. In fact, several news outlets, including CGTN America, reported that on Friday, January 16, 2026, Mark Carney had announced that Canada had “forged a new strategic partnership with China.” The news piece also highlighted the five areas in which Canada and China would be working together. They are “clean energy, expanding trade, strengthening global governance and multilateralism, enhancing public safety and security, and deepening people-to-people and cultural ties.”
