‘How quickly she flinched’: Donald Trump says he cannot ‘grab’ Karoline Leavitt
For the first time, Donald Trump does not want to “grab” a woman. But why? Is it because he wants to clear his name and address his significantly declining approval ratings, or is there another reason? I believe we will never know, because only Trump knows the intention behind his actions, and I am sure he will never say them out loud.
Anyway, here’s exactly what happened that has got a lot of people talking about Donald Trump. A video is currently circulating on social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), featuring Trump, in which he can be seen indulging in banter with members of the press while aboard Air Force. In a particularly fascinating moment that has grabbed the attention of the online world, Trump can be seen struggling to keep his balance as the aeroplane experiences turbulence while he stands at a juncture between two different sections of the aircraft.
Donald Trump says that he has nothing to “grab” amid complaints that the journey is turning “rough” soon. He also cheekily accused the reporters of deliberately putting him in a position where he could not take the support of anything if he had to. Trump also casually cracked a misogynistic joke about White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who was standing just behind him, saying that he was looking for something to “grab” and that it was “not going to be Karoline.”
While Leavitt was smiling throughout this whole encounter because, honestly, she had to if she wanted to keep her job, she visibly flinched when Trump tried to grab hold of a protruding part of the plane just beside him. Many have observed Leavitt’s body language in the context of this incident and concluded that it depicts fear, trauma, and a little bit of disgust. Others have brushed the incident aside and claimed that it is a normal encounter between two individuals who share a relationship of camaraderie. These people, of course, are MAGA and Republican-leaning people from whom one cannot expect anything else.
I don’t know about anyone, but honestly, the video gives me the ick. How casually Trump demeans and disrespects women around him, and how easily these people overlook his behaviour in this disregard, just because they are gaining favours from him, is so baffling. These days, whenever Trump says or does something, it feels like I am watching a Black Mirror episode that has no end in sight. Sigh!
