Donald Trump’s yes-man Kevin Hassett just got torched on national TV by one of his own

With his frequent vocal support for Republican figures and ideas, CNBC journalist Joe Kernen is largely seen as right-leaning. However, during a recent instance, it appears that Kernen is stepping off the usual path to highlight the flaws of the party he has consistently supported.
In a CNBC interview with Director of the National Economic Council of the United States and one of Donald Trump’s stooges, Kevin Hassett, news anchor Joe Kernen confronted Hassett for failing to recognise the increase in overall inflation in the United States since Trump became president. Kernen emphasised that there had been a total inflation increase of 3 per cent during Trump’s presidency, in addition to the rises that occurred during Biden’s administration. He also accused Hassett of being dishonest for repeatedly claiming that inflation had decreased during Trump’s time, urging him to take responsibility for the actual numbers, which were quite different from his claims.
Joe Kernen calling out Kevin Hassett on national television is a rare instance of a right-leaning individual challenging a Republican, and the internet is certainly enjoying it. As clips of Kernen’s and Hassett’s interaction began to spread on social media, they led to a lot of chatter. The conversations were particularly focused on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), which has become a hotspot for political discussions.
One user, sharing their thoughts on the incident, wrote on the platform:
“Hasset’s argument falls apart the moment you look at what Americans actually pay. Prices aren’t falling, purchasing power hasn’t meaningfully improved (if at all) & repeating Trump’s unhinged rant doesn’t make it true. None of this matters anyway if you lost or can’t find a job!”
Another user shared a similar view and noted:
“They’ve been in power since January 20th and they promised they were going to lower prices but yet they’ve done nothing but cause things to rise, so yeah it’s their fault.”
Many others shared similar thoughts. Some even questioned the quality of work being done by officials under the Trump administration, especially in light of the inconsistencies between their claims and the actual situation on the ground.
