‘This is actually refreshing’: South Carolina woman starts dating man whom she notices is married on Facebook. It goes well at first
A good rule of thumb is to never get involved with a married man—but what if he tells you he’s divorced? One would assume that he would be telling the truth. However, as a viral TikTok by Mackenzie Follak (@mfollak) shows, you should never just take someone’s word for it.
The two-part saga, which has cumulatively amassed over 1 million views, is stylized as a “put a finger down” video.
She begins by explaining that a man she used to follow in college requested to follow her on social media. Follak then checks Facebook to see if he is married. Based on his profile, it seems like he is. So, she rejects him.
But that wasn’t the end of it. He requested to follow her again the next day, and this time she accepted. Immediately, he added her on Snapchat, and Follak says she took this opportunity to ask him about his wife. According to the man, his marriage had ended.
So, the pair continued talking, and Follak says they got close fast. They had multiple phone calls a day, and they decided to have a first date, which, at the man’s suggestion, then turned into a first date weekend.
When the TikToker told him she still has questions about the divorce, he told her he needs to call his lawyer. From there, they got increasingly close—so much so that he invited her on a family trip, which Follak says she declined.
The date goes wrong
The whole time he’s on the trip, he keeps contacting her. When the week of the date comes, he tells her that he will be there late Friday. However, while he Snapchatted her in his car, he later texted that he would come in the morning to arrive by lunch instead.
Then, during a phone call, Follak said she was angry at him, which caused him to hang up. While she suggested a different weekend, the man insisted that he wanted to do it this weekend.
He then sent her pictures of himself in his truck, before he went off the grid. While she waited, Follak checked his ex’s Facebook page and saw that she was promoting the man’s business. This was a red flag, according to the TikToker’s sister.
By 3pm, he still hadn’t arrived, which led to Follak FaceTiming her friends about the issue. They suggested another woman may be involved.
Then, at 6pm, she received a text from the man asking her what she was doing. He says he “wasn’t ready” for the date and asked her to reschedule. Meanwhile, Follak’s sister’s friend contacted the man’s wife on Facebook. According to Follack, she replied aggressively, asking for the TikToker’s full name. This led to her texting the man about being married.
The man gets caught
She tells the rest of the story in a follow-up video. In response to her text, the man blocks her on Instagram, which Follak claims is an attempt to cover up his behavior. She then posts about the man to the ‘Are We Dating The Same Guy’ Facebook group. His sister sees and informs the man, who then calls Follak, begging her to remove the post. She does.
He then asked her two more things: to not to tell his wife that he called, and not to make a TikTok. Evidently, Follak ignores the second request.
“So, moral of the story, ladies, is we never trust a man,” she concludes. “I hope you’re just as flabbergasted as I am.”

Commenters were divided
In the comments, users were split. Some suggested that Follak already knew, while others were less sure.
“To all of you being facetious and assuming that she knew he was married, let’s remember she’s very young and I think she handled this very well and did all the right things,” one commenter wrote. “I’m sure she learned a valuable lesson. The real villains are the ones that would never be vulnerable enough to share this story and would continue dating.”
“Always do a background on anybody you’re willing to date,” a second suggested. “I don’t care how genuine their story may be ask for lawyer receipts. If they’re in the process of getting a divorce, ask for divorce papers if they say they are divorced. Ask to check their social media!”
Meanwhile, a third simply asked: “Man, is this a canon event or what?”
