Sonic (Ben Schwartz) in SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 from Paramount Pictures and Sega.

When Does ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ Start Streaming on Paramount+?

If you blinked and missed Sonic when he was in theaters, here’s where and when you can stream him at home!

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 premiered in theaters on April 8th, 2022 (hard to believe we’ve been dealing with a pandemic for the amount of time between these two movies). If you blinked and missed it, it is available for pre-order on some Digital Download sites (YouTube), but you may be wondering when you’ll be able to watch it with your Paramount+ membership, if you’ve already got one.

The sequel to the 2020 box office hit (one of the biggest movies of 2020 by virtue of it being one of the only movies to come out in 2020 pre-pandemic), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 features the return of Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik / Dr. Eggman, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, and Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski. It also introduces the lovable Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and the surprisingly hilarious Knuckles (Idris Elba). Elba’s Knuckles the Echidna was so hilarious and fun that Knuckles is set to get his own spinoff series in 2023.

So when can I watch it on Paramount+?

Luckily, you don’t have long to wait to bring the Blue Blur right into your home with your Paramount+ subscription, as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 lands on the streaming service tomorrow, May 24—yes, less than two months after the movie’s theatrical debut. That’s pretty fast, but … well, it is Sonic, after all.

Unfortunately, this may be the last we see of Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik in the film series, as the actor in question appears to be retiring. If nothing else, Carrey goes out on a high note, his Dr. Robotnik joining the ranks of the Grinch, Lloyd Christmas, and Truman Burbank as one of Carrey’s most animated and iconic roles. Sorry, Agent Stone. Looks like you’ll have to find someone new to make lattes for.

In any case, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is fun for the whole family and is certainly worth streaming in the comfort of your own home.
