Batman Easter Egg on Google Search Will Turn Your Screen Into Gotham City

Switch that Bat-Signal on!

The fever for Gotham City’s one and only Dark Knight is at an all-time high thanks to The Batman. After Entertainment Weekly covers that have burned a hole through the Internet, the newest take on the Caped Crusader is finally ready to see the light, and Google is celebrating the event in its own way, with a new Batman-themed Easter egg on its search engine.

If you type up “Bruce Wayne,” “Gotham City,” or “Bat-Signal” you’ll see a little Bat-Signal icon blinking right there with the search results. It’s already a cute touch as it is, but clicking on it will bring everything up a notch—your whole screen will turn into a dark and stormy night in Gotham, illuminated only by Batman’s famous beacon. Give it a few more seconds and you will see the Dark Knight himself zooming in and out of view as he takes action.

The Easter egg—apparently not sponsored by Warner Bros, just Google being very in-tune with current pop culture hot topics—will run for a year, and you’ll be able to see it both on desktop and on mobile.

Delayed by a very long principal photography process due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Matt Reeves’ long-awaited The Batman stars Robert Pattinson in the titular role and covers Bruce Wayne’s second year of fighting crime in Gotham as he pursues the serial killer called the Riddler, played by Paul Dano. Pattinson’s Wayne is joined by Zoë Kravitz’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Andy Serkis’ Alfred Pennyworth, and Jeffrey Wright’s James Gordon—just to quote some of the names that make up the movie’s stellar cast and have everyone all excited about Batman all over again.
