Britney Spears’ Request To Remove Her Father From Her Conservatorship Is Denied, but That’s Not the End of Her Fight

She deserves her freedom.

Britney Spears’ request to remove her father Jamie Spears from her conservatorship has been denied by a Los Angeles Superior Court. It’s important to note that this decision was based on a request back in November and not the one where Spears gave testimony and spoke her truth about the conservatorship. But even then, the news of the denial comes as a shock for someone who has been fighting this for over a decade.

According to CNN, this November request to remove her father from her conservatorship also came with a request to allow Bessemer Trust to step in as sole conservator of her estate. The court filing went on to say, “The conservator’s request to suspend James P. Spears immediately upon the appointment of Bessemer Trust Company of California as sole conservator of estate is denied without prejudice.”

That doesn’t mean that Britney is done fighting or advocating for herself. According to a source close to the singer via CNN, Britney has “begged” Samuel Ingham III, her attorney at the moment, to file a petition to end the conservatorship that has dominated Spears’ life for over a decade and severely limited what she can do, even with her own body. Digital Spy reports that it would only be after such a petition that a judge could make a ruling based on Spears’ recent testimony.

And the movement to free Britney has gained major traction after Spears delivered that “scathing 24-minute statement against the 13-year conservatorship.” During this testimony, she finally opened up about the realities of the conservatorship and its control over her life, her finances, and even her own body. She also let it be known that she’s told the world she’s happy, and it’s been a lie.

“I’ve lied and told the whole world ‘I’m OK and I’m happy.’ It’s a lie. I thought I just maybe if I said that enough maybe I might become happy, because I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatized. You know, fake it till you make it. But now I’m telling you the truth, OK? I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry it’s insane. And I’m depressed. I cry every day.”

While Britney Spears is fighting to get back control of her own life, Jamie Spears is apparently looking to investigate her claims against him. In a petition obtained by CNN, his attorneys said, “Either the allegations will be shown to be true, in which case corrective action must be taken or they will be shown to be false, in which case the conservatorship can continue its course. It is not acceptable for the Conservators or the Court to do nothing in response to Ms. Spears’ testimony.”

Whatever may come next, I hope the judge listens to Britney Spears and gives her the control over her body that she deserves. The next hearing for the Britney Spears’ conservatorship case is scheduled for July 14, 2021.
