SPOILER ALERT: This article discusses the events of the season one finale.

Good news, Killing Eve fans! Everyone’s favorite assassin obsession love story is back with the first trailer for season two. Expectations are high, as Killing Eve developed a cult following for its twisty story, brilliant performances, and darkly funny writing. The first season was lauded by critics, and star Sandra Oh won a Golden Globe, a SAG award, and a Critic’s Choice award for her performance as complicated MI5 officer Eve Polastri.

And while we’ve known for some time that Oh is a tremendous actress, the true revelation of Killing Eve was Jodie Comer’s psychopathic yet sympathetic assassin, Villanelle. There has simply never been a female character the likes of Villanelle on television before.

The trailer gives us a glimpse of the second season, set to a haunting version of Robert Palmer’s “Addicted to Love.” We see both women reeling from the aftermath of the season finale, which saw Eve and Villanelle in bed together, before Eve stabbed the assassin in the stomach. Luckily, Villanelle survives the stabbing, and we see her sporting some cute cartoon pajamas.

The cat and mouse game begins again, as Villanelle gets back to her murderous ways and Eve continues her obsession with the murderer. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Comer discussed Villanelle’s arc in the upcoming season, saying, “What struck me is what the stabbing does to Villanelle’s psyche—what this says about her and Eve. Does it make her believe that they have a very special relationship, or will she want revenge?”

Sandra Oh shared the sentiment, saying, “You see them vulnerable in different ways. They crossed a line and there’s no going back. We have a lot of energy in the beginning of the series … it pushes them to a different place of vulnerability.”

In other news, a new face joins this season of Killing Eve: Emerald Fennell, best known as Nurse Patsy Mount from Call the Midwife, has signed on as executive producer and head writer. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who created the show, will stay on as executive producer, but stepped back from to work on the second season of her acclaimed series Fleabag (which, if you haven’t seen it, is absolutely spectacular).

Killing Eve premieres on BBC America on April 7th. Waiting is going to be murder.
