If you’re a horror fan, chances are your most anticipated horror film of 2019 is Jordan Peele’s Us. The Oscar winner is delivering a new nightmare following his smash horror debut Get Out, and so far none of the marketing has pulled any punches. A new, terrifying one-minute long trailer dropped, featuring proof that star Lupita Nyong’o is going to be gunning for a second Oscar herself with a few key line deliveries.
The trailer starts off with the usual happy-go-lucky family scenes, showing how happy the central characters are, but it quickly devolves into terror when the family of doppelgängers appears. At 20 seconds in, check out Nyong’o’s terrifying delivery of a single word.
This doesn’t reveal too much about the plot, but it probably will provide fodder for even more pre-film theories. Will the terrifying burning ambulance be featured at the climax of the film, or will it be in the second act? What is going on with these mysterious doubles? Will this film also break the horror curse and be nominated for Oscars, because the cinematography and performances already look outstanding? I hope the answer to the third question is “yes.”
