The Mary Sue, Macmillan, & The Strand Book Store Are Coming Together for the Most Ambitious Crossover of All Time

Recommended Videos

In what we would consider one of the most ambitious crossovers of all time, The Mary Sue will be collaborating with Macmillan, Fierce Reads and The Strand Book Store in New York City to for a panel discussion: READ WITHOUT WALLS. The panel will feature authors Ilyasah Shabazz of Betty Before X and Mahogany L. Browne, of Black Girl Magic.

The event is inspired by the Reading Without Walls initiative started by former National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, Gene Luen Yang (author of American Born Chinese). It calls for readers, especially young readers, to explore books about characters who look or live differently than them, topics they haven’t discovered, or formats that they haven’t tried.

The program promotes diversity and opens readers’ eyes to new ideas and experiences. Learning to Read Without Walls is an inclusive way to spread appreciation and understanding for others.

If you’re in the New York City area, the event will take place April 16th from 7–8pm at The Strand Book Store on 13th and Broadway, in the Rare Book Room. It will be a panel discussion followed by questions. Bring your questions, your favorite inclusive books, and your ears. I will be moderating the event, so if you have been waiting for an opportunity to tell me how wrong I am about my opinions, welcome! Just save it for after.

The event is free, and you can RSVP HERE.

We’re excited to be relaunching a new era of TMS events, especially in our home base of NYC!
