They weren’t quite as lucky as NBC’s Timeless, but the CW’s Frequency and No Tomorrow will at least get some closure. The network has released epilogues for both series, which were both cancelled after their first seasons.
For No Tomorrow, the CW posted an extended cut of the first-season finale. The new cut clarifies what happened with the asteroid and lets us know how all the characters’s marriages, careers, and families end up. You can view the finale at the CW’s website or on the app.
For Frequency, The CW posted a three-minute (okay, just under four-minute) featurette, which available on the CW website and app. The featurette lets us know what happened with the radio, as well as what sort of message Raima was trying to send Frank.
Cancellation was a relatively sure thing after neither series was ordered to a full season. As Deadline points out, both shows’ ratings were “soft,” despite some boost from solid lead-ins and marketing campaigns. Once the CW’s six new pilots came in, and the executives liked all of them, the writing was unfortunately on the wall.
While the network’s logic for cancellation makes plenty of sense, I think these epilogues are a pretty classy, cost-effective way to let audiences say goodbye. It’s always sad for a fanbase, however small or large, when a series gets cancelled with too many questions still in the air, so I really liked this approach.
