South Carolina Man Hits Stranger at Costco With Shopping Cart, Gives a Deadpan Shrug, then Gaslights Her Daughter to Turn Himself Into the Real Victim
Why can’t people say sorry and move on?

Navigating a wholesale club on a busy Saturday is a test of endurance. But we generally expect the chaos to comes from crowded bulk aisles, not aggressive physical contact. Yet, when New York creator Taylor Paré (@paretay) stepped into a South Carolina Costco for an afternoon warehouse run with her mother, things allegedly turned physical.
Paré’s Costco run allegedly took a jarring turn after an encounter with an unruly stranger. According to her, the stranger hit her mother with his shopping cart almost deliberately. From there, things quickly escalated into a confrontation. In a candid TikTok video sitting at over 21,000 views, Paré broke down the bizarre incident in detail.
While the chaos ensued with an unprovoked collision, it ended with an infuriating display of faux-innocence. The stranger allegedly almost framed Paré herself as the villain in the story, right after letting out a shrug upon hitting her mother.
A sudden shopping cart collision sparked a standoff in the aisles
The altercation allegedly occurred while Paré and her mother were standing off to the side along a wall, selecting snack items without a cart of their own. Across the aisle, an older man maneuvering a large, empty cart allegedly crossed over and bumped directly into her mother.
Rather than offering an immediate apology or treating the bump like an accidental misstep, the man reportedly stopped and stared her down. Paré described his stare as an attempt at intimidation. So, she quickly stepped in to defend her mother and called him out directly:
“I said, ‘Excuse me, did you just hit my mom with a shopping cart?’ Acts like he doesn’t speak English. And I said, ‘Excuse me, that was very rude.’ And then he points to his hip, like does a little shrug, and I said, ‘Watch where the f*** you’re going.'”
In a similar incident, a California stranger had targeted a child with her shopping cart at Target. Like Paré, the child’s mom snapped back at the stranger, leading to a public scene.
The stranger allegedly flipped the script after the shopping cart bump
Instead of diffusing the situation, the man allegedly gave a dismissive shrug and pointed toward his hip. When Paré pushed back, the stranger immediately flipped the script. He reportedly began accusing Paré of being rude while entirely ignoring his own physical aggression.
However, Paré defended her sharp words toward the stranger. She emphasized that she gave him multiple chances to offer a simple apology before matching his hostility.
Reflecting on the encounter, she noted how underhanded intimidation tactics often rely on making the vocal defender look like the unreasonable party. Like in this New York mother’s confrontation with an elderly woman touching her children without permission.
While the man still walked away without issuing an apology, Paré refused to let him frame her as a villain either. She admitted that she was rude, but insisted that “people here need to be more mean” to discourage behaviour like the stranger’s.
“There’s a chance that he just hangs out at Costco on Saturdays and pushes old women with shopping carts. Because it was empty, and it was just weird, weird energy,” Paré added towards the end of her video. In any case, if you run into someone with a cart, remember that a quick apology goes a long way.
