14-Year-Old Girl Wanted After Newborn Daughter Is Found Dead as Father Faces Charges: ‘She May Also Be a Victim’

A 14-year-old girl is wanted in connection with the death of her newborn daughter in Monterey County, California, while the girl’s 38-year-old father is facing multiple charges, including incest.
The newborn, identified by authorities as ‘Baby Angelita,’ was found dead along a roadside on Aug. 1, with her umbilical cord still attached. Investigators said the infant had signs of trauma, and authorities subsequently issued a murder warrant for the teenager.
The girl’s father, Sergio Galvez Perez, is also wanted in connection with the investigation. According to authorities, investigators allege that Perez fathered the newborn after impregnating his daughter when she was 13. Perez is wanted on several charges, including incest and offenses involving a minor.
Authorities Say the Teenager May Also Be in Danger
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is searching for both Perez and the teenager as investigators continue looking into the circumstances surrounding Baby Angelita’s death. Sheriff Tina Nieto said authorities are concerned for the girl’s safety despite the murder warrant against her.
Nieto emphasized that the teenager may also be a victim in the case. Investigators allege that Perez sexually abused his daughter, and authorities believe she may be in danger while she remains missing.
Because the girl is a minor, authorities have not publicly identified her. Investigators are asking anyone with information about her whereabouts or Perez’s location to contact law enforcement.
The investigation began after Baby Angelita was discovered along a roadside in Monterey County. Authorities later connected a vehicle to the family, helping investigators identify people they say may have information about the newborn’s death.
Perez faces several allegations in addition to incest. Authorities are also seeking him on charges related to sexual conduct involving a minor, unlawful sexual intercourse, child concealment and child endangerment.
Perez’s Wife Has Also Been Arrested
Perez’s wife, 36-year-old Ofelia Garcia Ortega, has also been arrested and charged with child endangerment in connection with the investigation.
According to authorities, investigators linked a vehicle involved in the case to the family before Ortega’s arrest. Details about the specific allegations against her have not all been made public.
The investigation into Baby Angelita’s death remains ongoing, and authorities are continuing to search for Perez and the teenager. Anyone who encounters either person should contact law enforcement rather than attempting to intervene.
The charges and allegations in the case remain subject to the legal process. Perez and Ortega are presumed innocent unless proven guilty, while the circumstances surrounding the newborn’s death and the teenager’s alleged involvement remain under investigation.
