Joshua: Teenager vs. Superpower Is the Resistance We Could Use in America Right Now

Recommended Videos

Not all heroes wear capes. Some of them are just teenagers trying to get people to care about their home. At least, that’s what the Netflix documentary Joshua: Teenager vs Superpower is about. The film centers on a Hong Kong native who chose to fight for his homeland.

In 1997, Britain gave Hong Kong back to the Chinese Communist Party which then switched up its promise for Hong Kong to have autonomy. As a result, Josh decided to take action by rallying thousands of kids to skip school and take to the streets in protest. He would soon become an unlikely leader, as more picked up on his passion and courage.

The film, which won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, chronicles his journey from unknown kid to a sort of folk hero making a different. It’s directed by Joe Piscatella and heads to Netflix on May 26.

I encourage you all to watch because we could probably use that sort of activism in our country right now. It’s a nice reminder that no matter how young you are, you can still make an impact in the world. Everyone needs to realize this especially know, with the threat of apathy and the normalizing of Trump looming every day.

Friendly reminder that nothing about what is happening in American politics right now is normal. Get informed and be vigilant. /PSA
