We’re here for Rooney Mara, who co-stars in A Ghost Story, which looks weird and poignant. Sundance loved it up with rapturous pull-quotes from critics. Best of all, Casey Affleck seems to spend a good portion of the movie with his face hidden under a child’s idea of a ghost costume.
It’s no secret that we’re not big fans of Ben Affleck’s younger, scruffier brother after he was accused of sexual harassment by two women. As further proof such allegations don’t harm your career if you’re the President a man in politics or in Hollywood, Casey Affleck won the Best Actor Oscar this year for Manchester By the Sea. I regret promoting anything with Casey Affleck in it. But hey, at least here he’s mostly covered up. He should consider adopting this ghost look permanently.
Anywho, in the trailer, the splendid Rooney Mara (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Carol) is dealing with the death of Casey Affleck’s character. Affleck, slipping easily into the role of a creeper, then appears to spend the rest of the trailer shadowing Mara and spying on her new life.
The film, from director David Lowery, looks haunting and heart-wrenching—so I’m curious to see it, Casey Affleck aside. It’s being distributed on July 7th by A24, which released The Witch, Ex Machina, and Moonlight—this bodes well for A Ghost Story‘s quality—and the tagline of “It’s all about time” intrigues. The idea of using the old “sheet with eyeholes cut out” for a movie ghost is strangely effective and unsettling.
Here’s to more movies starring Casey Affleck with his face entirely obscured, if they must star Casey Affleck.
