The first Girl Scout troop was registered on this day in 1912! Like many longstanding and nationwide groups, the Girl Scouts have a complicated history–even to this day. They are proudly affiliated with Planned Parenthood and were years ahead of the Boy Scouts in welcoming trans Scouts, with one troop actually rejecting a donation from a transmisogynist; but the the Girl Scouts of America also marched in Trump’s inaugural parade.
Through the years, they have undeniably supported the leadership potential of their Scouts, encouraging them to develop skills in camping, crafting, designing video games, and marketing the hell out of those cookies. (Note: I was a Girl Scout myself, so I’m biased.) They tweeted about their birthday:

- Finn Jones pulled out the old “for the fans” defense when asked about the not-so-great reviews for Iron Fist‘s first six episodes. “These shows are not made for critics,” he said, “they are first and foremost made for the fans.
