First Trailer for Lifetime’s Britney Spears Biopic You Definitely Forgot Was Happening Is Here…and It’s Something

For some reason, Lifetime decided that now would be a great time to produce an unauthorized Britney Spears biopic.  It’s strange to see someone else playing her while she’s still alive, especially since she’s still actively performing. But here we are, with a movie on the way and the first trailer already here.

Judging from the short video, I predict the film will focus a great deal on her life in 2007 when the pop singer experienced one of the lowest points of her life because that’s all we need to know about her, right? I suspect the head-shaving incident is also the main reason this film got the green light in the first place. Even worse, I’m terrified of how they’ll portray her mental state because there has been enough speculation on that already.

On a lighter note, I’d like to point out that even the filmmakers behind the made for TV event recognize that actress Natasha Bassett looks and moves nothing like Spears because they’ve made a great effort in camouflaging her onstage performances with flashy edits, dim lighting and hair perfectly placed in her face. Or is this their attempt to make the film feel deeper than it is because the real-life performer is shy and loves to avoid the limelight? Whatever the case, the speed at which this was produced and the seemingly limited budget suggest that quality was not high on the agenda.

But I’m not the only one questioning the merit of this film. Spears’ team had previously spoken out against it, saying she did not contribute “in any way, shape or form …nor does it have her blessing.” So don’t expect much accuracy either. Then again, isn’t that true for most of these Lifetime biopics?
