Monday Cute: We’re All This Poor Cat Just Trying to Play With Some Koi Fishies

Recommended Videos

If 2016 can be somehow thought of as some kind of physical metaphor, the closest I could come to describing it is, perhaps, as a raging dumpster fire that threatens to overtake the dumpsters before and after it in line.

But we might be able to find a more peaceful metaphor in this poor little cat who just wants to play with their little fishy koi friends in the frozen pond.

We, of course, are the cat, and the little koi fishies are what I like to call “our hopes and dreams and happiness.” Playing the role of 2016 is, of course, the ice barrier, the cold, chilly, frosty barrier that keeps us from ever truly achieving our deepest desires. Hell, it keeps us from getting to the most shallow desire: an okay year.

So, here, at the end of the last Monday Cute of the year, as you watch this poor lil kitty jump and dance around the frozen pond that is the flat circle of time, I’d like to remind you that everything doesn’t suddenly “get better” when 2017 rolls around. Things get better when we work together, and that’s exactly what 2017 is going to ask of us.

Are you ready to break through some danged ice together? Good. I thought so.
