I Thought This Riverdale Promo Was a Twin Peaks Promo and What Is Going On?

Recommended Videos

The more I hear about Riverdale, the more I wonder just what the heck is going on over at The CW.

For starters, the Archie-inspired teen drama is said to somehow merge Twin Peaks with the usually squeaky-clean world of Archie. Former TMSer Carolyn Cox wrote about a trailer that popped up on YouTube a while ago, summing it up pretty succinctly when she called it bonkers. Honestly, looking at this latest promo to hit the web, it’s obvious that her words still hold true here.

It’s got everything: money, sex, fights, blood, rich kids, and even a freaking body bag. As we already know, the show starts with the death of “golden boy Jason Blossom,” and deals with the ripples that have emerged as a result of that death. Parts of this promo allude to some seriously dark things going on at Riverdale, and through it all, the Archie crew are likely to find the same kind of trouble you’d likely find on any other teen drama.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. I’m usually all for outlandish teen drama shows, but here, it’s made even more interesting by the fact that this is Archie, and the last thing I ever expected Archie to be mashed up with are Twin PeaksCruel IntentionsGossip GirlThe OC, or Pretty Little Liars. Given the fact that Gossip Girl isn’t on the air anymore, Riverdale might be able to fill a very specific need for a bunch of fans who now find themselves in a drama vacuum.

Again, let me make it clear: my curiosity is freaking piqued. I am down for this and I think it is going to be amazing in its weirdness. I am so gosh darn curious to see how this series is going to turn out that you’ve got me for at least a few episodes. I’m not sure what’s so damn intriguing about watching rich kids get into major trouble, but I’m always curious.

I won’t have long to wait to see that, I guess, as Riverdale is set to premiere on The CW on January 26th.
