We’ve waited for nearly a decade for The Last Guardian, and if this cinematic trailer is anything to go by, the wait just may have been worth it. Seeing as how we’re just a few short weeks away from its release, it makes sense that the marketing blitz would pull back the curtain more and more, getting us invested into a game that, like I said, we’ve waited a really effing long time for. What’s more, this cinematic trailer highlights what’s surely to be one of the game’s prominent features: a story that explores our emotional connections to the people and things we hold dear.
In fact, its main character, a little boy who is endearing as all get-out, holds our attention fairly well, but he pales in comparison to his Guardian, Trico, who seems to be designed to just tug on every single “cute animal” heartstring available. Part bird, part mammal, Trico looks like what you’d get if you crossed your family dog with a ferret and a pigeon. A…cute pigeon, at least.
This trailer puts their connection (thus, our connection) on display, as the little boy escapes from a bunch of enemies by leaping towards Trico, who catches him with his tail. Then, Trico…barks? Hoots? Barkhoots?…at the enemies as he takes off. Of course, this is all set against super dramatic music because of course it is, and already, we’re made to feel emotionally invested in their journey.
Listen, I don’t know if you can tell, but I’m very excited for The Last Guardian and I just know I’m going to be feeling all the emotions at once when we all finally get to play it on December 6th.
