Timeless, in my opinion, is one of the most surprising breakout shows of the fall season. Created by former Supernatural head Eric Kripke and The Shield‘s Shawn Ryan, Timeless follows a trio of ragtag time-travelers (a historian, a scientist and a soldier) as they attempt to stop a criminal from altering important events in world history.

So far, the show has managed to cover some pretty sweeping historical events–in the first three episodes, the Timeless crew traveled to the year of the Hindenburg disaster, Abraham Lincoln’s assassination and the era of the Rat Pack and the atomic bomb. It’s also managed to address important issues–like the racism and sexism that often permeated society within these different time periods–in a smart, incisive and unexpectedly funny way.

When I had the opportunity to attend an early screening of the second episode and a cast Q&A at New York Comic-Con, Kripke revealed that the show will be going to many more exciting time periods as the season continues, including the famous Battle of the Alamo and the Watergate scandal. For now, the show doesn’t plan to go any further back in history than the French and Indian War, according to Kripke–much to the disappointment of his son, he noted, who had hoped that dinosaurs would be involved eventually.

In the promo for tomorrow’s episode, the team heads to Nazi Germany and finds themselves working with none other than the creator of James Bond himself, Ian Fleming. In an interview with TVLine, Sean Maguire–who plays Fleming in the episode, but you might recognize him from Once Upon a Time as well–talked about how each of the time-traveling members deal with meeting the father of Bond:

Whether it be Rufus, who’s obviously dealing with the “double agent” aspect of his own character, or Wyatt, who’s like, “F–k it, we’ve got to do what’s right, to hell with the rule book,” which he and Fleming see eye to eye on. And then there’s Lucy — Fleming not only fancies her and wants to flirt with her, but he also sees that she’s a capable agent. He presumes she’s a fellow agent, not just a historian. All three of the main characters get to have an interesting little side part with Fleming.

Timeless airs Monday nights on NBC at 10/9c. How have you been enjoying this season so far?
